Daft question about childcare

Sorry if this is a daft question, I'm a very single parent (Dad not remotely on the scene) of a DC2.
They go to nursery 3 afternoons a week, luckily we qualify for the 15 free hours so they are in nursery all year round (12 hours a week).
The nursery is at capacity and there's no chance to buy more sessions at the moment (I'm on the waiting list).
I manage to work while they are at nursery and once they are in bed.

I don't live near any family or friends who can babysit, so I have no time off from looking after my child when I'm not at work I don't work every evening so I do veg in front of the Tv those evenings and friends occasionally pop round.

I'd love to be able to take the whole day off sometimes (I'd book time off work) and actually go out for the day sans toddler.
Nursery is 'only' £8ph and I'd happily pay for more sessions/ad-hoc sessions but they just aren't available.
Could I get s childminder to pick up my child for the morning then take them to nursery so I get the whole day off?

There are nursery staff who do baby sitting in the evening, but I only work part time and money is too tight, I just can't afford it.
But I think childminders are cheaper ph? How do I find one?
I'm newish to the area and I don't have any mum friends and I struggle to find the energy to invest in new people at the moment, I'm so stretched.

Yes you can ask a childminder to collect/drop off from nursery. It's been long while since I did it but iirc we got a list of registered childminders from the council. People often as for recommendations on our local facebook group too.

It varies between childminders - mine did school drop off and pick ups but not for morning/afternoon session times, some might if there's demand though.

I paid mine for 2 full days, and did 2 and a half with funded hours at nursery (term time only so full 15).

DS's old childminder did use to do drop off and pick ups from the local school nursery, which did morning or afternoon sessions, so it's definitely possible. The problem would be that you couldn't just book 'ad hock' when you fancy a day off. You would need to book in and pay for a regular day every week, possibly even 2 days because many wouldn't do just one, as it's harder to build the relationship with the child and get them to settle.

Are you meaning you just want to do this sometimes to give you the whole day off? You might struggle to find a childminder who will do a random ad hoc morning once in a while.

Yes I do mean ad-hoc.
Because I'm locked into the afternoon sessions at nursery and I think it will be a lot of my DC to go from childminder in the morning to nursery in the afternoon at the moment for regular sessions.
She gets so knackered and I know she won't sleep at the childminders or nursery if she's having to switch at her nap time.

Basically I need a rent-a-granny/grandad!

But looks like I'll just have to hope a child moves from the nursery and I may get more sessions

Try to ask parents at the school. I needed someone to just do drop-off/pick-up when my OH broke his foot (he WFH his own hours, hence does school runs).
One of the parents recommended a childminder who did that for me for 6 weeks (she would have done it ad-hoc afterwards, if she had the room in her car, I think!). She charged her hourly rate each way (£6.50 if I recall, so £13/day/child...)
