Good family restaurants near Temple Meads/Wake the Tiger Bristol

Thought we might go to Bristol in the easter holidays and visit Wake the Tiger.
We'll train into Temple Meads so I was wondering if there is anywhere semi decent (and not too expensive) to eat with teenagers, within walking distance of this part of town.

Bocabar is a 15 minute walk from wake the tiger in the paintworks development. It’s really nice. Great pizza and lots of room.

however- just so you are aware, the entire area is super industrial. I can’t really recommend anywhere between temple meads and wake the tiger apart from boca because it’s a bit of a dead zone. Lots of heavy vehicles and garages and car dealerships. A few hipster coffee places are opening, but that’s it.

also, poor road quality. It’s not going to be a ‘nice walk’. i would definitely all pile into an Uber to go back to the station at least.

Thank. The area does look a bit off putting, which surprised me a bit as the venue is asking people to travel in a "green" way.

Well it’s Bristol so everyone likes to think they’re an eco warrior.

The best way to walk would be put the back of Temple Meads, past Motion nightclub and along the river Avon which is a footpath/cycle path. It’s definitely an urban walk but it’s not dangerous or anything like that and you’re away from the traffic.

Recommend Small Goods cafe near the station for donuts. Bocabar is also the only place I can think of for food.

Oh and unfortunately the Spark Evans footbridge that would be the best route to Bocabar is currently closed for repairs.

The Italian by Temple Meads, Don Giovannis is worth a looks, would be a good family Italian option

Thanks all. I'll think on it some more.

If you want to drive Wake the Tiger has a large free car park.

Second Don Giovannis, really really good quality Italian food, nice friendly atmosphere and not too expensive. There are probably cheaper options but I don't eat out around there really, it's very much snack food/cafes/sandwich places etc for commuters rather than actual restaurants

TheDandyLion · 15/03/2024 09:32

Wake the Tiger does have an on site cafe with good food.

BubblePerm · 15/03/2024 09:35

Yes, Don Giovani's has a really good reputation.

Wake the Tiger is a bit off on it's own, and Temple Meads already isn't in the main central or harbourside area where most restaurants and things are. There's Avonmeads not too far away which had KFC/McDonalds/Krispy Kreme/Greggs/M&S Food but not what you're looking for I imagine! I'd agree that heading across to Paintworks, where Bocabar is, would be your best shout. https://www.paintworksbristol.co.uk/eat-drink-and-see/bocabar

Arnos Vale is just across the road from Paintworks, if the weather is nice and you have some more time to kill. https://arnosvale.org.uk/

The food at Don Giovanni's is good, but the opening hours always seem to be weirdly restrictive. There is a fantastic bakery under Temple Meads called Hart's which I very much recommend, although unless things have changed there isn't seating. (When I say "under" I'm not sure how to describe it, I'm sure someone will be able to better explain!)

givemushypeasachance · 15/03/2024 10:42

@Totallymessed I'd say it's in the arches under the approach to the station. Harts is lovely if you want to get bread/sandwiches/pasties/sausage rolls to take away but very small seating area inside.

the cafe at wake the tiger is really lovely - i'd just eat there!
