Am i likely to need filling or RCT?

I've never had any treatment done to my teeth so am pretty clueless about dental treatments.

I have a back lower tooth that hurts when I eat something hard. There's no pain any other time or when I poke around with a finger. It's been there around 3 weeks. I'll try and get an appointment tomorrow but any idea whether it's likely to be a filling or root canal needed? Trying to pre empt the cost as its not NHS.

when was the last time you went to the dentist?

I would think if the tooth feels solid it's unlikely to need a root canal, back tooth could be a big filling though so could still be quite expensive. Good luck.

DH has just had similar, they quoted £200 for a filling or £1400 for root canal and a crown

Probably around 18 months ago. My NHS dentist left and they're still trying to replace her so I've not had a check up in that time.

The tooth feels completely normal until I crunch something hard with it so fingers crossed its just a filling. Thanks!

I can cope with £200, really could do without a £1400 bill

impressive to never had any fillings or work done at all!

It may be the start of an infection, they can take quite a while to brew. Hope you get it sorted.

I had similar for a while, then a bit of tooth broke off. My dentist did a big filling. Said it was probably already cracked for a while, and as we get older we do get small cracks in teeth. Hope it doesn't cost you too much.

Thanks all.

If it's at the back you could just have it taken out rather than pay fortune for a root canal. I had quite a big filling done about 18 months ago and got the cheapest one which was £75 but that's gone up to £100 now.
