How to listen to music on a budget

My old CD player is on its way out and I don't currently subscribe to Spotify due to trying to keep monthly costs down, however it might be preferable to buying a new cd player. So I wanted to ask for low budget ways to listen to music. If you have Spotify what speaker do you use to listen? Or if not using spotify/apple music/amazon music etc how do you listen to music? I'm looking for minimum outlay initially, I only listen to music in one room and it's not very big, so no huge speakers required, but would like it to sound good, not cheap and tinny.

Thank you!

Wander round the charity shops. There are plenty of CD players to be had for very little. Then you have no on-going costs.

I have Amazon because I get the music, tv and prime delivery whereas Spotify is just music. Depending on the music you like there is a basic package which doesn't include the very latest music or for a little extra money have the full package. I have a smart speaker but I also use a really great Bluetooth mini speaker I bought on Amazon and cost £20.

I'm not sure if I've misunderstood, as I'm trying Amazon music, but it's shuffling with other artists and won't let me skip, which is similar to free Spotify. I have Prime, thought Amazon music was included? Which do you pay for and are you paying extra for music?

@upanddowns I used to have just Amazon Prime where you could listen to a large catalogue of music but not the latest. It didn't used to shuffle but I see it does now. I added a subscription for Amazon Music Unlimited which has better sound quality and a much larger catalogue of music including the latest. But this does all amount to having two subscriptions which between them cover tv, music, delivery, some boogs and magazine, some gaming. I think you can just subscribe to the Music Unlimited (without Prime) for £8.99 per month. I also found this article about alternative music streaming options

Spotify is hiking its prices – here are six cheaper alternatives

Other music streaming platforms offer hi-res and spatial 3D audio, as well as millions of tracks

Thanks, that seems to be the case yes. I'll look at that article.

Can confirm the Anker Mini is a great speaker. We've had ours in the kitchen used every single day for 6 years and it's never skipped a beat.

In fact I have several Anker speakers in various sizes and some headphones and earphones. There's all great quality and simple to use.

I have an Alexa. If you don't pay subscription you get adverts. Just plug it in and listen..and can't get every song. I pay subscription and listen to anything l want.
Also l like radio stations on my telly .
I do have a CD player too.
But Alexa is better quality.
