Just pondering, not really in a sad ‘what’s the point in being alive’ way but what’s your purpose i suppose. I’m just curious what people see as their motivation. Mine would have been my career and kids but now I’m my 50s, I’ve left my career for more of a job and the kids don’t need me as much. I need some inspiration/motivation

I love this question as this is exactly how I think.
I’m in my 30s and have young children so my current purpose is them.
I reckon once kids are grown up it’s going to be travel. I really adore seeing new places and immersing myself into different cultures. Every few years I also have a list of things I want to see or do that year (I never tick them all off but I find it makes me focus on how I actually want to spend my time).

Inwardly: Self acceptance and recognition
Outwardly: Modelling, mentoring and sharing kindness and objective critical thinking in all things

(Age 52, in third career, youngest DC 13)

I find this question interesting, because I feel it warrants a grandiose, meaningful answer, however I don't really have one of those. I don't have a purpose, I just want to get the most I can from it.

I feel my life is worth living because of my wonderful DH. Have first baby on the way so for him/her too shortly! Aside from that it's my family, my cats, nice days pottering about in my garden...

I could have written this! I think in addition to travel I'm also going to have the most beautiful garden, like my Nana :)

I'm 38. Mine is my children (9 and 11) and working as hard as I can to a) progress and b) make money for a comfortable life and to have some to give the DC. Once they are reasonably independent my focus will be travel

WhoaJayShettybambalam · 13/03/2024 18:48

Following with interest as I’m currently purposeless and not able to climb out of this hole.

ZeroFucksGivenToday · 13/03/2024 18:49

mines saying yes to things.
travelling, random cinema visits, hot chocolate in bed with my 10yo dd, theatre trips.

I'm 41 and the last few years have been a whirlwind of seeing new places and doing fun things. And lots more booked. The planning for me is part of the love.

besides that, kicking ass at my job.

I love gardening too!

This is a perfect articulation of what I would love to leave as a legacy. I think the Earth could benefit from this @WhichPage

WhichPage · 13/03/2024 18:54

I didn’t really answer the question! I strive optimistically to feel acceptance of myself really and I do it by the things I said before as much as I can manage. 🙄

Theinjuredcleaner · 13/03/2024 19:01

I live for being alive! Fresh coffee in the morning, watching the birds in the garden, beach days, good food and wine, hearing my children giggle, snuggling with pets, music, art, dance, books....

My children are 7 and 9 so everything I currently do is centered around them. But even if they weren't around I'd still find reasons to enjoy being here.

NuffSaidSam · 13/03/2024 19:04

Day to day contentment. It means I'm quite dull, but generally very happy.

LadyWentworth · 13/03/2024 19:06

i feel better I’ve found when I write down my ideas and plans which I’ve stopped doing. Although I have more free time in theory, I seem to have filled it with mundane chores and not enough fun (as retirement comes closer I’ve developed an urge to save as much as I can!) I need to find a balance.

I live to provide for and have fun with my children. I also work my ass off so we can go on good holidays, have excellent christmases... I'm currently saving for a growplay climbing frame for the kids, a hot tap for the garden (game changer for paddling pools) and decent bbq. Getting ready for summer.
I also live to work hard to invest for our retirement and house deposits for the kids. Having aims and achievable goals makes a big difference and keeps me focused.

BioHives · 13/03/2024 19:33

, try to make a difference for a great cause, try to help collegues as best as, and in general try to be an intriguing person of intrest

Beezknees · 13/03/2024 20:19

Right now, career. I don't "live" for it but I'm just getting it off the ground. I'm 34, had a baby when I was 18 so worked "jobs" that I could do around him but now I have time to focus on development at work. I started a new job 6 months ago and I'm progressing surprisingly well.
