What is the most you would spend on a single skincare product?

I get most of my skincare in savers and only get nicer stuff at Christmas and even then I’m only likely to spend £20 max on a product and it would have to be blood good. However I have friends who will spend £100 on a single product, they do mostly look good and have lovely skin but I always feel like no one product is doing that for them.

So tell me what is you max spend on a single skincare product?

I once spent £55 on a face serum.

I did have fabulous skin and always looked very young for my age but I realise now that’s just down to genetics and wearing face protection from my early 20’s.
Menopause is what has suddenly aged my skin, the collagen lost in the first few years after menopause has a terrible effect.

£10. I am 52 with no wrinkles, and very happy with my skin with cheap-as-chips tret from overseas, which I get for £1. I do not believe in expensive skincare. Neither do most dermatologists.

Sususudio · 13/03/2024 17:19

Well, I say £10 but I don't appear to have any skin care products that are above £6.

Neither do I generally but I am tempted by some of the cutting edge serums with growth factors etc but they are all £100 plus and I’d never spend that in a million years!

Please share all about your skincare and where to you get retin a for £1??? PM me!!!

I spend from time to time 40 on serum but it’s a bigger pack so essentially 3 times bigger then usual size.
If we are talking in standard units - £20, unless specialised one off for a problem.

Yeah I worry about menopause looming and what it will do to my face? Does HRT prevent the loss of collagen?

90 quid on vital essence by chantercaille , everything else is cheap as chips.

AlexandraJJ · 13/03/2024 17:21

The most I’ve spent is £195

oldgreysquirrel · 13/03/2024 17:21

I spent £12 on a lovely oil cleanser from Holland and Barrett in June last year and it hasn't run out yet, so good value. Lovely soft skin. My daily SPF is £8. Moisturiser, £3 (boots own brand plain moisturiser).

It's no secret. I get Retin A from family and friends in India. It may be £2 by now. If you have any colleagues going there, ask them as it's OTC. However, tret is not an instant fix and takes time to show results, and there will be peeling when you first start.

I believe you can get it from Dermatica and Skin and me in the UK. But I can't advise on that

@App13 was it worth it, would you repurchase?

As to loss of collagen, I am on HRT but I still have some sagging. I don't think Tret or any skin care helps with that. I don't believe in injectables either- a lot of stuff I don't believe in- so I am just going to live with it.

Newvista · 13/03/2024 17:34

@Sususudio when did you start hrt if you don’t mind me asking?

Op I had surgical menopause so started on HRT pretty quickly. My skin looked mostly fine for the first year or so, but then I also lost a bit of weight so the shrivelled apple look got more pronounced.

Sususudio · 13/03/2024 17:43

I started HRT about a year ago: Oestrogel and Utrogestan pills. But then I had a hysterectomy in December, so I am only on Oestrogel now. I don't think it has made any difference to my skin at all. I probably need to increase my dosage; waiting for an appointment with my GP.

GameOfJones · 13/03/2024 17:45

£15 max but ideally under £10. I just go into TKMaxx and get whatever I can find under that price.

I'm pretty sceptical about very expensive skincare and think a lot of it is fancy packaging and marketing that you're paying for. I tend to think if I'm eating vegetables, drinking water, getting enough sleep, properly cleaning my face and using SPF then I can whack any old serum and moisturiser on. I admit I don't have very problematic skin though!

App13 · 13/03/2024 17:47

Newvista · 13/03/2024 17:29

I layer use it for work aircon
I've been using it for 4 years , you can put it on eye area as well which is why I buy it

I then use cerave moisturiser on skin

A separate eye cream

And to be fair I've always had baby skin and at 44 I don't have enlarged pores on cheeks which I'm grateful for. It may be genetic, I don't know but I feel complete with it. Its my only indulgence now.

As I go to work less so its worth it.

wednesday32 · 13/03/2024 17:48

It varies on the product. My cleanser is less than £15 and often 3 for 2, plus I earn points from boots. My serum is over £100 and I have repurchased it many times I love it!

workshy46 · 13/03/2024 17:49

A lot, easily over 200. I use Biologique recherche products. I think it depends, I don't have good skin naturally so I had to work at it but my skin is clearer and tighter than it was 8 years ago when I started. I don't botox or do fillers either, no laser etc
People always used to assume I was older, now it is the opposite and while I don't believe when people say you look 20 years younger etc etc my skin is good now and people always comment on it which was never the case before

Moier · 13/03/2024 17:52

I'm not sure.. l use no7.
Get it mostly as presents for Mothers day,/ birthday,/ Christmas.. always a full set of serums.. cleansers... Eye gel.. day and night moisturiser everything really.
Lasts ages.
I have always drunk loads n loads of water.. ( My Granny told me best thing for skin) .. she had gorgeous skin.. my Mum too and l get complimented on mine for my age.
I don't smoke or drink.
I think good skin is down to genes and what you eat/ drink etc.

Newvista · 13/03/2024 17:53

@workshy46 What Biologique Recherche Products you recommend or think make the most difference?

SleepingisanArt · 13/03/2024 17:54

I spend £80 on my moisturiser. Yes it's a luxury brand and for me it works, but it's not just about the way it makes my skin look (and feel - gosh its soft!) I enjoy applying it every day. It's a little bit of luxury to start each day - I don't need much so it lasts for months so works out as pretty good value for money.

MermaidGin · 13/03/2024 18:01

£20

UnicornMadeOfPinkGlitter · 13/03/2024 18:07

I love skincare and make up so don’t kid spending quite a lot. I would say £100 is my max though.
I use everything from £5-6 in Superdrug to £80 from John Lewis/space nk.
