Does this sound right? Council house priority? Disabled.

I currently live in a housing association flat, Love it here but it has a set of stairs which are slowly killing me, If I ever get anything delivered it takes me ages to get it up the stairs, If I can at all. Same for online grocery shopping, I have to take it up one bag at a time etc, I'm disabled with two chronic illnesses and also an auto immune disease. One of my disabilities include mobility issues and a lot of pain so I decided I would like to move into a ground floor flat.

I joined the local housing website which means I can bid on properties but they have classed me as 'Preference need' so I contacted them to let them know I was disabled and they told me to contact the independent living service to come out and assess me, Once that is done they would update my account so I could then bid on adapted properties.

Contacted them today and the lady I spoke to said I would get no priority as I have access to a kitchen and a bathroom. She didn't seem to know what I was talking about but insisted she was right and it would take years for me to move as they wouldn't give me priority, This is the same place that fit a wet room in the flat I am in now six years ago due to my disability!

Do disabled people no longer get any priority for housing or do I call back and speak to someone else?

Maybe it depends where you are
I am disabled and 6 years ago was no housed at all, social services tell me to live in my car then
Lucky I did find somewhere to live but that was scary

Sorry that was no much helps

maybe you can call back and speak to someone else, I would say worth a try

You get priority if homeless and in temporary accommodation.

You already have a home so it's not the same.

Have you tried exchange groups?

Go on the home swap site, it's easier than through the council.

I had to find a ground floor flat for similar reasons and I did quite quickly through the site. The council had placed me in band A but I was told it could take a long time.

If you contact adult social services for an occupational therapists housing needs report, this holds the most weight with housing.

I knew someone who was disabled and needed a bungalow as she couldn't manage the stairs in her house. She had to have occupational health come out and do an assessment on her to prove she was unable to manage the stairs. It was a lot of jumping through hoops, but she did eventually get a bungalow.
Most delivery drivers will bring parcels up to your door if needed though. When I lived in a first floor flat they always did
