What age did you speak your 1st word?

I’m 63 and am moderately gifted. My 1st word was mom in a clear voice at 4 months old. Then 1 week later the 2 words hi mom in an extremely clear voice. The doctor at the time told my mom she’d never seen anything like it. Needless to say I was placed in the gifted program at 6 years old courtesy of my kindergarten teacher. Just wondering when was your 1st word?

Ds' second word was croissant. (We were in France). His French accent at that age was probably better than anything I've ever managed.

His first word was bisc. The theme has continued.

Nine.

Up until then the service had been perfectly adequate and my dear Papa and Mama required neither requests nor reprimands.

According to my mother I used to sit up in my big silver cross pram saying hello to everyone, they did keep toddlers in their big pram's a lot longer in the olden days lol.

I said 'hi mum, nice to finally meet you' at 2 minutes old.

lol.....

Haveneceday · 12/03/2024 23:13

Hahahaha

Somethingsnappy · 12/03/2024 23:13

My first word was 'cot', and I still very much like my bed to this day. I am probably moderately gifted at sleeping.

I'm howling at this thread 🤣

AnaVanda · 13/03/2024 06:40

I was reading by the age of 2 weeks. My parents would throw volumes of the encyclopaedia britannica into my cot to keep me quiet.

Hoglet70 · 13/03/2024 07:00

This is brilliant, you've all cheered me right up this morning 😂

Georgie743 · 13/03/2024 07:09

Some of you were really late bloomers.

I don't mean this to be a humble brag, but my mum told me that I used to conjugate Portuguese verbs as an ovum.

TroysMammy · 13/03/2024 20:53

10 months old, haven't stopped since.

'Needless to say' is carrying a LOT of weight in the OP. A LOT.

RubaiyatOfAnyone · 13/03/2024 21:02

i communicated from a year old onwards purely through Rachmaninov’s concertos, arranged for the xylophone. From 2 years on i moved into ground breaking audio-visual performance art that required my parents to wear 3-D glasses at all times when looking at me.

In all seriousness OP, if you’re thinking about whether you’re “gifted” at 63, rather than thinking about the amazing achievements you’ve made over your life time with your talents, you may well have been just a little ahead of your peers as statistically many children must be.

TicklishHam · 13/03/2024 21:15

I am yet to be born and am communicating using my highly developed psychic typing prowess. On the occasion of my birth I will ascend immediately to a higher plane of existence beyond your comprehension.

I’m 58 and have never yet felt the need to speak. I use my right eyebrow to signal displeasure or surprise… and a very slight curve of the mouth when I’m amused.

Mine was ‘ramekin’ at the age of two weeks. By five years old I was translating the Bible from the original Arameic. At seven I could recite the entire Spice Girls back catalogue including b-sides, dance moves and all. At nine I was voted into the United Nations as my own member state. At the age of 40 I am now Jeremy Clarkson’s stunt double and a part-time nun. Thanks for asking.
