What is this cutlery knife used for?

Vintage silver plated knife, part of a set with forks. The knife is the same shape as a fish knife but the blade is thick and concave. Never seen fish knives like it. The fork is too short to be a dinner one so could be dessert. In 20 years of selling on Ebay, I have never seen a knife which is concave apart from a cheese knife. Any ideas?

It's a fish knife.

Beebumble2 · 12/03/2024 18:27

Could it be a butter knife?

Nellieinthebarn · 12/03/2024 18:35

could it be a marrow scoop? For bone marrow, not vegetable marrow.

I thought butter knife as well. How big is it? Could it be a cake slice?

ItWasntMyFault · 12/03/2024 18:40

Fish knife.

Justcallmebebes · 12/03/2024 18:40

Its a fish knife. Shaped like that to fillet and remove bones

PandoraRocks · 12/03/2024 18:41

I think it is a fish knife as just found a similar style online. They're usually flat which is why I was confused. Definitely not a butter knife or marrow scoop.

Looks like a fish knife if you say it has a small fork to go with it that also beats that out

Cuppachuchu · 12/03/2024 18:43

Definitely a fish knife.

FindingMeno · 12/03/2024 18:53

Agree that it's definitely a fish knife

RoberttPostesChild · 12/03/2024 19:03

Weird fish knife! It looks curved@PandoraRocks?
Considering the period it could have any obscure culinary use.

Its a fish knife. Shaped like that to fillet and remove bones.

Also the blade is silver or silver plate so it doesn’t taint the fish like steel blades did in the old days before stainless steel.

ATerrorofLeftovers · 12/03/2024 19:15

Yep, a knife for filleting fish. Go to a smart, yet slightly old fashioned fish restaurant, and if you order fish on the bone, they will offer to fillet it for you at the table. And use one of these.

Dogondoolally · 12/03/2024 23:33

It’s for a little fishy on a little dishy
