When do you hand in your notice?

Is it at offer stage or at contract stage?

I've had the offer and email from the recruiter, not just the contract. To make things even more complex I'm going on a short break on Thursday, so would like to have it all done and dusted by then.

Tia!

I dont until I have the contract in my hands. I want to see it all written down and check its all correct before handing in my notice.

Signed contract

Is a signed offer good enough? I'm just starting to ponder about start dates

Only once I've received and am happy with the contract

At offer stage you still need to go through referencing, etc. Definitely wait until you have a signed and returned contract, and an idea of start date, depending on the length of your notice.

Depends on your industry, but I have a three month notice period, and have to have occ health, DBS, references, etc sorted all before I’d be comfortable to put my notice in. It can take six months from offer to starting work in the NHS.

At contract stage - all our offers are subject to references/ occ health etc so I'd never advise anyone to hand notice in until a start date agreed.

I guess my industry doesn't necessarily ask for references, so I wouldn't think it's subject to them or any other assessments.
