Freaking out - insomnia and strange hallucinations?!!

recently I’ve been sleeping very poorly, if at all. Few reasons behind it I suspect, stress due to family health and work being unsupportive.

there have been a few nights, including last night, where I have had no sleep at all. I seem to go past tired which is where I am now: if I’m lucky I’ll get 3 or 4 hours.

I am a glasses wearer and have astigmatism. Tonight, whether glasses are on or off, I keep seeing ‘movement’ out of the corner of my eye - when I look over there nothing there but it’s enough to make me ‘jump’ which in turn makes me even less inclined to relax and fall asleep

And just now I looked over at my wardrobe and it looked as if a small handbag I have was slowly swinging and opening as if there was a draft coming through. I went over to it and of course it was completely normal but in front of my eyes the gap in between the wardrobe doors seemed to open and kind of wobble?! Recognise that sounds crazy..

indont believe in the paranormal and I’d rather not entertain any theories about that.

is it to do with my sleep deprivation do you think?!

Fellow insomniac here. Get up, make a tea, sit somewhere not in bed. Just waiting and worrying about getting sleep makes it worse. So go elsewhere and do something warm/gentle/relaxing. Then try again. Or I frequently go to sleep in recliner chair (where I am now) with warm cat on lap. Don't do social media/screens. A book and (speech) radio good for me. Hope you nod off soon.

Insomnia is hell!

Maybe you’re overtired

Yes, lack of sleep can do odd things. I can get similar if overtired or stressed. Speak to your gp if you're worried though.

I hallucinate after a few days of sleep deprivation. Very likely a combination of that and the stress that you mention.

Have you spoken to your GP?

If you get a few nights of very little sleep you start to have dreams when you are awake. Experienced it once at work when dd1 was a small non-sleeper!
