I just want to catch a chill and be in bed for a few days - is that odd ?

the kind where you have goose bumps even though you have a temperature and feel really warm yet your body is still shivering.

I can then hide away in bed for a few days with a hot water bottle and recoup from general life and all the pressures on me.

I'll swap places..I've got it now.. along with sore throat.. chest infection .. hacking cough and snotty nose.. . It's exhausting and painful.
Be careful what you wish for.
Just go to bed early and pretend.

I felt like this about the COVID lockdowns. I really believed we'd had a nice three week break from everything then it'd all be back to normal but with us all refreshed 😂

Shallana · 11/03/2024 17:30

I know what you mean OP! I came down with norovirus in November last year. The night/early hours of the morning were awful, but the next day the vomiting had subsided and I was just wiped out and shaky. I set myself up on the sofa with my duvet and oodie and watched christmas films/napped.

DH did all the chores and dog walking, changed the bed and kept me supplied with lucozade and snacks once my appetite returned. It was quite lovely.

Yes! I’ve been daydreaming about this for months. My entire family have been ill at various points over the last year with some kind of bug or virus but I never seem to pick them up.

I do appreciate how lucky that makes me, but every now and again I think it would it would be nice if someone tucked me into bed and forced me to watch MAFS all day.

Last time I was ill was with covid in July 2021. Not even a sniffle since then.

whoputallofthatthere · 11/03/2024 18:18

No, I don't think this is odd. I feel like this occasionally when I'm very stressed/feeling run down by everything. I don't want to be literally ill, but just want an excuse to hide in bed for a few days.

HomeIsHardToFind · 11/03/2024 18:22

Yes, all the time! I really relate to the poster that fantasises about breaking a 'none important' bone so she has an excuse to just stop.
So many people rely on me for everything that I can't just switch off-ever.....even the flipping cat is meowing at me right now for something.

MrsDilligaf · 11/03/2024 18:31

I do! I had a water infection last year, ended up with some nasty antibiotics - aside from the obvious irritation, spending a couple of days in bed was bliss.

Isabelle70 · 11/03/2024 18:42

I sometimes think a day or so it bed would be lovely to have a rest. I am never sickly and always the one to be at work where all around me have some cough, cold, headache, sinus pain etc and get to stay home!

Is having a day off sick due to mental health acceptable ? when nothing is physically wrong but you need a day to re-set before you hit burn out or a breakdown and are then potentially off for weeks/months

@magicstar1 I like your style

Yes. I probably wouldn't say that's why but I'd catch a shorted lived stomach bug and take to your bed. You sound knackered and sometimes you just need to stop and recuperate, if you have a partner could you get them to take more of the mental load as it sounds like that's what is overwhelming you.

bevelino · 11/03/2024 19:16

When I had to isolate for 10 days during Covid lockdown, it was heaven lying in bed all day and felt like a proper holiday from the trials of life.

Sugarfish · 11/03/2024 19:17

You need a holiday! Preferably somewhere kid free where you can relax.

I do get it though, last year work got so busy and we were all so burnt out I dreamt of getting covid. Just a mild form where I could lie in bed eating and watching tv for a few days.

BaaaBaaaBaaa · 11/03/2024 19:46

I totally get this. I have a 3 year old though so no resting even when I am ill!
A couple of years ago I was very unwell and went to the Dr, they suspected pneumonia and I was told to go straight to a&e. Despite feeling absolutely horrendous those few hours in a&e were great, I was really hoping I was going to be admitted so I could get some rest 😂 now that is mad..
