My stomach seems to be going crazy today, felt nauseous earlier but that has eased a lot, feeling hungry so have eaten but stomach really doesn’t feel settled! What’s your go to remedy to settle your stomach quickly? Really hoping it’s not a bug!

Ginger biscuits. My friend used to swear by fizzy drinks.

Cloud44 · 11/03/2024 13:09

I’ve tried ginger biscuits - hoping they work their magic soon!

Do these things work even if it turns out to be a stomach bug?

I chew the Gaviscon double action tablets when I feel sick and they never fail me. Can buy them for 2.49 in Home Bargains.

Flat lemonade. Put a tiny sprinkle of sugar in to take the fizz out.

I believe coke is pretty good (or rather bad…) for bugs due to its acidity and chemicals in it.

Ginger biscuits and ginger ale hasn’t helped yet… feeling yucky 🤢

With me, if ginger ale/beer or ginger tea hasn't worked then I go to anti-nausea pills prescribed by my GP. I think OTC travel sickness tablets that contain Promethazine hydrochloride are the same sort of thing as my gp prescribes.

You could follow the BRAT diet, banana, rice, apple sauce or toast ..sorry if you already knew that it stood for, but its meant to be good for stomach upset and nausea. It might be wise to avoid dairy too, if it is a bug then diary will feed it, so dry toast if you can ! Ginger biscuits were great for me wheh I had nausea during pregnancy

I wouldn’t use fizzy drinks even if flat - can really irritate the stomach.

Cloud44 · 11/03/2024 15:47

Does anyone else panic when they feel nauseous? Sounds stupid I know but I worry not knowing how long it will take to lift?! And I worry that I will actually be sick. Do other people manage to carry on their day as normal when feeling like this?

OP posts:
ZebraTree · 11/03/2024 15:47

If it is a bug you might just have to ride it out.

Pepto-bismol can help if you have any. (Easier said than done in the UK now.)

ZebraTree · 11/03/2024 15:47

If I genuinely was concerned I was going to vomit and wasn't just nauseous I would leave work.

Cloud44 · 11/03/2024 15:48

How can you tell the difference between just being nauseous and actually about to vomit?!

Yes the minute my tummy starts to feel off I get really anxious. Do you have emetophobia OP?

mylittkeitalianhome · 11/03/2024 16:01

I have emetaphobia so always get anxious, but if it was a sickness bug you’d most likely have been sick by now - they tend to ramp up from zero to unbearably nausea really quickly. You’re probably just having a blurgh day! I find that a fizzy drink (especially tonic) and a nap helps loads - also ‘music for nausea’ on YouTube.
