Sunday - getting ready for the week?

What do you at the weekend to make the week easily? How do you make sure half of Sunday isn’t just preparing for the week?

On Sundays I work from home (2 hours). Then to prepare for the week, I get an online grocery shop delivered which I unpack. I sort the fridge and kitchen for the coming week. Then I pack away laundry and sort uniforms for the next day. That’s all I do, it’s quick and painless.

Batch cook a couple of meals

Ironing for the next few days

Hoovering

light cleaning so I feel ready for the week

Online grocery delivery, packed lunches, weekly calendar updated, homework and music practice done, showers and baths.

On Saturday, bins, recycling, big clean of the litter tray, light cleaning (cleaner twice a fortnight does the bulk of it), laundry / change beds..

It does take up a fair amount of the weekend but we both work full time so just the way it is.

I don't! I try and sort anything that needs to be ready for Monday on Thursday or Friday.
Sometimes I do a bit of extra cooking on Sunday but only if I'm cooking anyway.

Do you make packed lunches in advance?

Do you have a system or is it make it up as you go along?

Not really a system. It's mostly school/sports stuff that needs washing so I make sure it's done before the weekend and do a big house clean on Friday morning so the house is clean and tidy if we have visitors.

ilovebagpuss · 10/03/2024 17:17

If you both work full time then sometimes you just accept that part of the weekend will be jobs.

I try and get the washing and uniform up to date on Sunday.
Usually have an eye on food for the next 3 days.

Any appointments or events on calendar and aware.

Bits of cleaning done in week nights and maybe beds on a weekend or bathrooms.

Just make sure you have some time that is not organising or jobs.
DH and I went to the cinema yesterday afternoon or he runs and I go for a walk with a friend.

My DD's are older teens though.
I like to have all my boring stuff done by teatime on Sunday so I can chill/read/watch something.

Hoglet70 · 10/03/2024 17:34

I don't do anything on a Sunday except dread Monday.

My son eats cheese and ham sandwiches every day, I make a loaf of bread worth once a fortnight (it makes ten sandwiches) and freeze them in beeswax wraps. Then after school he just grabs one and the other stuff that he has in his lunch which are prep free. Doesn't work if you like variety or non freezable lunch.

SneakySnakeEx · 10/03/2024 17:40

Iron the weeks uniforms
Make Mondays pack lunches
Write out shopping list for Monday or Tuesday.
Meal plan the week.
Write out the diary for the week of what kid has to be where ( 4 kids in 4 different schools, colleges, and different activities)

Decafflatteplease · 10/03/2024 17:46

For context there's 6 of us so a large busy household. We tend to go out somewhere or do something on a Saturday then Sunday is usually church twice a month, homework and getting ready for the week.

Ocado comes on a Sunday morning every week we have a reserved slot and then a top up on a Thursday.

We wash and tumble dry all uniform and work clothes on a weekend so they are l together. I tried doing it through the week but ended up trying to find jumpers scattered around the house so now we have dedicated uniform wardrobes and washing baskets .

Sunday dinner is usually a roast or a lasagne usually in the slow cooker. I'll usually bake on a Sunday aswell for snacks for the week.

I also try to do some simple prep things like making sure we have fruit washed and cut up in boxes in the fridge. I usually air fry some veggies like butternut squash and sweet potato to stick in meals during the week.

Younger DC have hair wash and nail cut on a Sunday bath time, older ones can do their own as and when.

I try to get an early night on a Sunday to be ready for the week.

Having said all this I still feel like I'm chasing my tail all the time!

CeriB82 · 10/03/2024 18:02

My Sunday consists of a glass of wine and cooking a roast. The rest of the week sorts it self out.

chill!

Beezknees · 10/03/2024 18:37

I don't really need to do anything to "prepare" for the week apart from put my laptop in my bag as I go into the office on Monday. DS is 16, old enough to sort out what he needs for school. I do check parent pay to make sure he has enough money to buy lunch at school. I'm not wasting the day cooking a roast!

There is just me and DS though so no young kids to sort out.
