Hubby doing a late shift. I am newly pregnant and craving Chinese food! What would you order? I don’t want anything with too many veg textures today as they are making me 🤢 at the moment. Need a really beige dinner as a one off treat!

I'd go sweet and sour chicken balls, special fried rice or king prawn chow mien, and then a spring roll with curry sauce.

I'm pregnant and also want mostly beige food at the moment, I'm having a Chinese tonight and really want hot and sour soup, salt and pepper chips, salt and pepper chicken, curry sauce and seaweed!

BeyondMyWits · 09/03/2024 16:38

We have M and S Chinese fakeaway for 2 in a box. Prefer it taste wise and cost wise.

But if it was from our local, we have beef in black bean sauce with a portion of noodles, mini spring rolls and either lemon chicken, or sweet and sour chicken Cantonese style. Just costs so much nowadays.

Sometimes we’ll share a crispy chilli beef as well.

Singapore noodles 🤤

They are amazing.
My absolute favourite.

Fallenangelofthenorth · 09/03/2024 17:39

Sweet & sour pork, cantonese style with egg fried rice. Maybe some salt and pepper squid and/or prawn dumplings. Mmmm

Strokethefurrywall · 09/03/2024 17:50

I'm heading back to UK in 2 weeks and I can't WAIT to have a proper Chinese meal.

Crispy chilli beef
Chicken fried rice
Singapore noodles

Maybe some chicken balls to start. I don't care, as long as it's Chinese food!

AtleastitsnotMonday · 09/03/2024 17:54

I'm totally at sea with Chinese food, due to allergies we rarely have it and stick to dishes we know are safe. Can some one explain the difference between sweet and sour chicken Hong Kong Style, sweet and sour chicken balls and sweet and sour chicken cantonese style?

OldMrsHempstock · 09/03/2024 14:52

Another vegan here so not much help to you but we had a Chinese takeaway last night. I had tofu & green peppers in black bean sauce, vegetable rice noodles and seaweed.

Every time I order vegetable noodles there's fried egg in it. So frustrating.

slavetothekittens · 09/03/2024 18:04

We're having a Chinese tonight. For me it will be sweet and sour beancurd, boiled rice, vegetable spring rolls and half a portion of salt & pepper chips.( early Mothers Day treat ....daughter is paying)

I think Hong Kong style and Cantonese style are the same? It's small bite size pieces in a light batter, but still nice and crispy, with pineapple, onions, peppers and sauce. Chicken balls is thicker batter and much bigger pieces - more like chicken nuggets - and where I've had them they come in a bag with the sauce in a separate pot. No veg. I do like both as the chicken is a bit garlicky, but prefer cantonese style.
