Did they remove my tubes in surgery?

Curious title, I know😂

My second, and last pregnancy I was under a consultant due to being high risk (previous complications resulting in early c section) and at my meeting with my consultant I requested a VBAC birth, but also requested that if a second C-section was needed I want to have my tubes removed. We knew we didn’t want anymore kids, and having two c sections puts me at higher risk again so we’re definitely done.
Consultant didn’t bat an eyelid said they would put it in my notes.

Then the day came, waters broke and didn’t progress for 24 hours, so opted for c section instead of induction. I wasn’t then ever asked about the tube removal before going for the section the next morning. I know it was in my notes because I’d read it myself. So would they have done it? I was too anxious and in pain to think about it at the time and we just wanted to be in and out quickly so I remember discussing with DH that I didn’t want the surgery to take any longer than it needs to as I was scared, so he opted to have a vasectomy instead.

But it’s got me wondering whether they did remove my tubes at all as per my notes? Or would they have double checked with me at the time? Would I know if they had removed them?

if it wasn't discussed at the time of surgery and documented on the consent form you signed for then they won't have done it. Generally they're a bit less likely to suggest/perform a sterilisation at the time of an unplanned c-section.

I think they would have asked you. I had it done after my fourth section and it was discussed in depth when I saw the consultant and they asked me again if I was sure while I was cut open. However, with my third I had not said I wanted to be sterilised and the surgeon said on the spot that it was recommended and that they would perform it if I wanted. There was nothing discussed before. So it's worth asking but I think it's unlikely.

Did you sign a consent form for the C section? It would have been on there if they were planning on removing them too. Didn't you ask post op or when you saw the surgeon again?

I’m going with unlikely….i think if it was a planned C-Section with tube removal it would have definitely been discussed more in depth with you and been highlighted on consent forms.
Chances are you would have been operated on by the emergency/unplanned C-Section team and I think they would just focus solely on a safe delivery especially as labour had started.

When did you have your Caesarian? Recently or a while ago?

No, it's on the yellow consent form specifically so before your section you'd have had to have said before the op you were expecting a c section with sterilisation as part of your pre op checks. Given that would have counted as an emergency section and you don't recall being specifically consented for it, you most likely didn't have it done. You can request your notes from the hospital and ask to see your consent form/ the op note and it'll say whether you 1. Were consented for it and 2. Whether they did it or not.

They have to give you the right to change your mind right up til surgery so unless they discussed it and put it on the consent form then they haven't done it

You have to sign consent for any procedure not just have it written in your notes you want it

I consented to having my Tubes tied in a planned section, signed the line etc

Ds came early at 34 weeks and was an emergency section- they wouldn't do it in an emergency situation/unplanned section situation so I highly doubt yours were done.
