Do your 8 year olds get dressed without a battle every day?! Or is mine broken.

No battle but she's easily distracted. So she'll get half dressed and then start playing with something.

Yeah mine gets dressed himself as I allow him to watch a bit of tv before school if he’s dressed. If he’s not, he doesn’t.

he’s an early riser and doesn’t wake me when he wakes up, he goes downstairs himself and switches his tv on, but I set alarms and when I go down he’s usually sat there dressed watching tv, they’re all different though aren’t they. On the opposite side, I have battles and moaning with him going for a shower! So that’s probably my battle

Not a battle but it can take a few reminders and occasionally things go on back to front! Showers/baths are a battle, every single time.

MuggleMe · 09/03/2024 08:33

It entirely depends if she wants to get dressed or if the activity (school/outing) is something she doesn't want to do.

Bemyclementine · 09/03/2024 08:35

My 8 yr old does, he's really very good at doing that sort of stuff. The 7 yr old though, fml, every day is a battle.

Yes but we made it into a race a little while ago and she still loves to be first. She does have strong opinions about what she will & won’t wear at weekends though and has some beautiful clothes which I think will end up never being worn!

stargazer02 · 09/03/2024 08:40

No. Not really any clash points here. Been dressing themselves from age 2.5ish.

What do you think are the barriers? Is it just before school? I bet they aren't delaying it before a fun day out!
Are there sensory or physical issues with the clothes (too tight/scratchy etc) or process of dressing?

He’s just like this tiny sloth. He’s very very easily distracted too, and just doesn’t like to do things unless he wants to!
