Any Womad goers?

Am thinking about Womad as a family of five. I've only ever been to one festival as a teenager and it was awful (Reading).

Please share your experiences. I'm looking at the pre-pitched tents.

Is it fun? Is it truly family-friendly? Are the facilities grim? Would I struggle with a nearly 3 year old? Is it worth the money?

Thanks!

We've gone every year since the kids were babies, not in the UK, but theyre all roughly similar. Its a brilliant festival for families, lots for kids to do, lots of opportunities to learn about the arts in different cultures and listen to music that's completely different to what's normally on my play list. We've always found it very chilled out, and the amenities are better than other festivals I've been to. Food was a bit expensive so we brought snacks in, then ate main meals there. I thoroughly recommend it!

We’ve been four times with our kids at various ages. We find it absolutely brilliant and the kids love it. As pre-teens they were kept pretty busy in the children’s area with the activities and fair. It’s well geared up for little ones. I remember one year when my son spent three hours in the story telling tent absolutely enthralled. We used to hire carts and put them to sleep in them so we could stay out for the night, which the kids loved.. As teens we let them take a friend and they are pretty safe to wander around (phones on, teachers on, agreed check in times). There’s loads of great world food (and kid-friendly stuff) and lots of charities and causes have tents with kids’ activities too. My teens still join in the children’s procession- luckily this year they have a baby cousin coming to wheel along!

We always get wristbands for the La Di Da loos. They are clean, not crowded with mirrors, dryers etc. and we think we’ll get yurts this year, but we’ve camped before and it’s fine. As you can tell, it’s m a great fan and we have years of lovely WOMAD memories 🙂

I've helped put the tents up at WOMAD! It's good fun and toilets are pretty good.
