15 year old, feels well, no temp, good appetite, no other symptoms at all really but he's had a barking cough for a week now.

Would you see a doctor?

My son had this last year, after about 10 days it became clear that he actually had shopping cough so keep an eye on it

There is a LOT of it around. I had a class yesterday where I think 50% of the children were bark/coughing so loudly I had to give up teaching input part of the lesson as no one could hear me over the coughing!

I've had a cough for 3 weeks or so. It hasn't even crossed my mind to go to a pharmacy let alone the doctor.
You should go so it doesn’t do any damage.

Whooping cough has quite a distinctive whoop so might be worth listening to some videos on it if you’re not sure what it sounds like. Not that I think the GP can do anything about it? I’ve had it twice and had to ride it out both times, was ill for weeks and weeks the first time, hope it’s not that.

but yes, personally I wouldn’t see a gp for a cough for a week if otherwise ok.

Anyone got any tips for what can ease the cough? Gonna get some Vicks later and try and it some of that on his feet. The gp gave him some throat spray and simple linctus medicine but that doesn’t seem to be helping much

Still hacking away here. We haven't seen the GP yet as he's still absolutely fine otherwise but he's getting tired with it. I thought I'd give it until Thursday and if there's no improvement I'll ask for a GP phone call, let them decide if he needs a check up or not. I'm amazed DH and I haven't caught it as he's barking all over everything!

I posted earlier and same here. He's fine in myself but it nearly made him sick this morning. I'm going to ring GP today.

No. Too soon. Maybe wait and see. Unless it takes 6 weeks for an appointment. In which case, yes.

Mine has had a cough for 9 weeks. 9. The GP offered to see them next week, 3 weeks ago. The cough is much better and less barky but still there.

Balloonhearts · 12/03/2024 13:49

If he's still got it in 2 weeks then I would. But not after a week, that's just a cough.
