UK PR person sought for H&M. Any way back?

Headline on the Daily Fail tonight claims that Harry and Meghan are seeking a UK PR person to solve their 'popularity problem'.

I work in corporate PR these days but did a few years in celeb PR. If the story is true, I can't see a way for their UK public image to be fixed. Obviously lots do like them and feel they've been badly treated but even if they could win over the majority public, the media isn't likely to give up (especially papers that have been sued).

Just curious really if anyone could imagine a scenario where they'd be liked again by the majority in the UK? What would they have to do? Go into the celeb jungle? Apologise to the nation? No idea really! All I do know is that if anyone takes that job, they've got a tough task.

No way back for the middle aged balding whinefest of a man or his middle aged ex tv actress wife.

I wish them well in their new life as long as they continue to stay in the USA, hanging around the edges of Hollywood society and hope they never return to this country.

Between Charles, Camilla, Andrew, Harry and Meghan, the RF have turned into a disgusting farce.

Maybe when that old lech Charles is dead and the mistress he married has pissed off back to wherever he dug her up from, William might be able to restore their reputation but I'm not convinced.

Nothing can redeem them but Harry might receive a warmer welcome if they split up and Harry admits he was taken in by her and is sorry for the untruths and unpleasant things he wrote in his book about his family.

not that Harry has a mind of his own but his wife made him do it ?

BoohooWoohoo · 08/03/2024 12:38

They can rehabilitate their image like Camilla and Sophie but it involves saying nothing and doing as the PR company tells them which are both not going to happen.

JanewaysBun · 08/03/2024 12:39

Their mistake was slagging off the British public/country. Complaining about your inlaws/family is one thing. But when you want to represent the country you apparently hate seems a bit hypocritical.

Fwiw I'm not super against them, I think they should as someone said turn themselves into a posh n becks style team in the US and might do well. But they've told us they hate being royals so why would they come back. Plus I don't think Meghan enjoyed princessing duties once she realised what they were - tbh I wouldn't either!

If that PR person is as good as the PR person for KP then it'll be the marketing equivalent of Fawlty Towers

They'll need to get back in with the royal family first and have them back on side.
Once that's done, there can be a few comments from members of the rf of how it's wonderful to have the family back together, then H&M can say how happy they are that they've all reached an understanding and how they're looking forward to a future together.
Then they can all skip off into the sunset and live happily ever after.
Please dm me for my consultation fee.

😂👏👏

If the pr people can spin Boris into an MP then anything can happem

brytersky · 08/03/2024 12:55

Impossible. They would need to acknowledge what they've done, demonstrate genuine humility and contrition and spend years doing some genuine hard work to help others (not merely for publicity) before they'd be even remotely considered trustworthy.

It simply isn't going to happen.

glitteryframing · 08/03/2024 13:00

The only way I can see it working would be to sell up and move to Malawi or Botswana (places Harry loves) and live a quiet life for a couple of years, genuinely (quietly) doing good things and embedding themselves into a community. No paparazzi, no leaks, no interviews...just time out 'to reflect' and 'give back'. Going off grid would probably do wonders for their public image.

Johnson has a certain sociopathic charm and intelligence though, the harkles are just whiny, boring, professional victims.

Charles lectures on the environment and lives in appallingly wasteful lifestyle - why is this never pointed out???

Also William has lectured people about how many children they have. But only poor African women with poor access to healthcare and no one to look after them when they get old apart from their children. Who cares about them when you need to have an heir and a couple of spares to ensure your family's continued privilege? Far more important.

Paradiddlediddle · 08/03/2024 13:03

Life is long and people are being feted as national treasures who were hated at the time. John Major anyone? Even King Charles and Camilla.

I am sure there is a way back for them, it will just happen at some point without us even noticing once William agrees. Their American careers seem to have stalled a little whereas they will always have currency here, so they’ve got to really, unless they really do want obscurity.

brytersky · 08/03/2024 13:08

I can't see William agreeing. They'd cause problem after problem and gather personal information before spilling it all over the place. They're simply not trustworthy.

Mumofteenandtween · 08/03/2024 13:14

Camilla managed it. Basically she “turned up and shut up”. Over and over again.

But it mainly depends on William. Harry has done nothing to me. What he did to William was pretty awful in the context of his family. If William becomes on good terms with him again then I think the British public will. If he doesn’t then they probably won’t.

It is a terrible shame though. I am another who thought that Meghan would be an excellent member of the Royal Family and that the William, Harry, Katie and Meghan team could be brilliant.

Charles has been dragged through the dirt for his environmental views that he's held for most of his life. He lives and advocates for greener lifestyles as much as his role allows him to. I'm not a royalist but I have always admired his environmental stance.

GloriaMundy · 08/03/2024 13:24

The first time I read an interview with her I thought 'No, Harry. Please don't. She's trouble.'
Love is not enough for being married to a top royal.

I do not believe Britain hates her skin colour. Me neither. She had film star looks and they seemed in love (whatever that means). They represented a modern couple in a modern multicultural world.

Camilla is not my Queen Mine neither, but I still think of the King as Prince Charles. I think QC has done the turn up and shut up very well, and I am pleased that they seem a happy and stable couple.

TwigletsAndRadishes · 08/03/2024 13:33

I have absolutely no axe to grind over H&M, but I think the very best thing they could do now is lie low and live a quiet life, largely out of the spotlight. I'm sure they have enough money that, if invested well and spent wisely, will last them for life. Every attempt at ramping up their public profile or telling 'their side' of the story just seems to dig their self-made hole deeper and make seem ever more petulant and more desperate for attention.

It's all become so tawdry and tiresome. I don't read anything about them. I don't watch anything about them. I was absolutely rooting for them at the beginning, 150% on their side. Now I'm bored rigid by the very mention of their names.

twingiraffes · 08/03/2024 13:53

Read your thread title and thought you meant the chain clothing store H&M.

If it had been, I'd have been interested.

brytersky · 08/03/2024 14:59

Why can't they just get jobs and live their lives? They seem immature and attention seeking. Other people have work and their children to occupy them. Surely they must be able to do something useful? If they're running out of money then get jobs.

GloriaMundy · 08/03/2024 15:08

@brytersky , because they aren't qualified to get jobs that would pay them the amount they need to fund their lifestyle?

Citrusandginger · 08/03/2024 15:13

Andrew might be rehabilitated with [some] family members, but I don't think there's a serious attempt by anyone other than himself to rehabilitate him with the public. And nor should there be.

Camilla has worked hard, but also appears to have a small group of journalists and talking heads who appear to genuinely like her. Harry too, can charm when it suits but I think people have seen beyond the charmer to the whiney git who never grew up.

Well I don't either, but it's a tough world 😂

Camilla seems quite pleasant though and doesn't slag off the RF.

Doesn't just show that the Royal Family's PR is effective? None of us know what any of them are really like.
