My local town is bad for potholes but the test town is even worse, many of them are at the side of the road on narrow and/or fast roads. As a learner I spend a lot of time checking my mirrors to make sure I'm not driving in the middle of the road - does anyone have any tips for avoiding potholes without swerving or crossing the white line. E.g. I can see that my wheels are up to the white line but then my wing mirrors will be on the other side of the road. It's so hard to see the pot holes in advance as the roads are often windy and I'm so focused on just driving well.
Also, puddles! I did my first test last week (unfortunately didn't pass but not to do with potholes or puddles) but the examiner got very unhappy when I drove through puddles. She said I should go round them, when I said about oncoming traffic she said I should stop and wait - on a 50/60mph road?? I asked my instructor and he said you can't stop and wait for a normal-sized puddle on a fast or windy road. So I also have this problem of trying to avoid something on narrow fast roads with oncoming traffic.
If I can't avoid potholes or puddles how much should I be slowing down?
My instructor is on holiday for a couple of weeks and it's stressing me out as the examiner I had is known to not be very nice and she swore at someone during their test for going through a puddle wrong😳. I think they've probably had a few complaints about her
