Do most UK banks charge a fee to transfer money (£50 to £250) to a personal bank account in Europe? Thanks

You'll either get charged a fee or a high exchange rate, or both. Use a transfer service like Wise, fast and reliable. I haven't used a bank to transfer funds overseas for over ten years now.

I had to pay an Italian fine last summer. My bank (co-op) didn't charge a fee, but did give a slightly unfavourable exchange rate (€1.12 ish to the £, when it should have been €1.16), so really not as bad as I thought.

Could have done without the fine in the first place though!

I always use Revolut

My bank doesn't charge a fee and it's really easy to do online.

We also use revolut.

Thank you. I am trying to organise an event where a number of people from UK will need to make a one off payment into a European bank account so they will all be banking with different banks and wont want to open a revolut account for example

Grandhigh - what bank are you with and is the exchange rate reasonable?

Use Wise. And then you can convert into any currency

I would also recommend Wise. I have no affiliation with them! I use the service once or twice a year, it’s straightforward and MUCH cheaper than a transfer via your bank.

Try Currencyfair, I use them all the time, very quick, good rates, based in Ireland.

Tillygan60 · 06/03/2024 19:11

Wise is great, very low fees, transfers go through almost immediately and everything is very quick and easy.

Of your bank doesn’t charge you a fee, they are making profit on the exchange rate.

For large sums, never use a retails bank (and there are issues with fintechs). It’s better to use a fully regulated currency broker.

Transferring money to Europe can sometimes be a hassle with all the fees and exchange rates. It depends on how you send it. If you’re using banks, they often charge higher fees and might not offer the best exchange rate. Services like Wise or Revolut are cheaper and quicker, especially for smaller amounts. If you're worried about exchange rate fluctuations, you can lock in rates, which might save you some stress.
It’s worth checking out Off plan Currency risk Dubai to learn how exchange rates and timing can make a difference. Planning and comparing options is key. I’ve found it helpful to use online calculators offered by these services to see the final amount before transferring.

Use wise or revolut. Much cheaper

Nationwide don’t charge and offer competitive rates. No, l don’t work for Nationwide.
