Apply online. They say its three weeks at the moment

Wishitsnows · 06/03/2024 12:22

I did one recently at the post office, they take the photo and ensure submitted correctly, it’s tracked and I got it back in a week.

KarmaArmy · 06/03/2024 12:23

I just did it for my daughter. Application to receiving the new passport was 8 days

mindutopia · 06/03/2024 12:29

Apply online. It's very easy. You get the photo taken and a code sent to you, which you add to the online application. It's £50 something.

Just sent ours off last week for school trip in early June and I expect to have it back by end of March definitely. It was very quick even getting the first passports (5 days, I think) back then.

IYZAY · 06/03/2024 13:32

Apply online now you should get it by May.

SmartiesParty · 06/03/2024 13:34

You have loads of time before may! I just did a first child one and it came back in a week

user1471523870 · 06/03/2024 13:34

I renewed it online for my DS and it took less than 2 weeks to arrive.

MikeWozniaksMohawk · 06/03/2024 13:36

I renewed my child’s recently and it was back with me a week after I sent off their old one

TurtleMoon · 06/03/2024 13:39

What exactly do you need help with OP? The quickest and cheapest way is to apply online. You'll need to get a photo taken or take it yourself.

Like other posters, I recently renewed my child's passport and it took about 8 days in total.

Go and get child's photo taken at a Max Speilmem or suchlike. They can check it to make sure it 'passes' and then submit online. You can book a fast track as well if you want it back in under a week.

Playdoughcaterpillar · 06/03/2024 14:55

I did it online right before Christmas but even with all the bank Holidays it was less than 2w. You have time. If you want guaranteed within a week you can book an appt at a passport office. Eg London/Liverpool

Justploddingonandon · 06/03/2024 15:00

Apply online. I did my son's recently and it took 13 days, 6 of which were waiting for my friend to countersign it (it wasn't urgent so I didn't rush her).

dementedpixie · 06/03/2024 15:03

You can take a picture with your phone and do an online application. They tell you where to send the old passport and once they receive that they will send out the new one. If you child is under 12 you will need a countersignature- you will need their email address if its for an online application.

Mintearo7 · 06/03/2024 15:11

Just got back out renewals today - I sent off last Tuesday. Steps: Apply online, you can use a photo from your phone if you follow the guidance, tell person who will countersign in advance and get their email address (choose person who will do it quickly), one they have signed send old passport via post office - you should get new passport back within 10 days max.

Online is quickest and cheapest, but at the Post Office they can check you've filled everything in correctly. I guess it depends what matters most to you. If it's a straightforward renewal, I'd do it online. The gov.uk websites are designed to be accessible to a broad range of people, so even with a fuzzy mind it should be manageable!

I disagree with the poster who recommended going to a Max Spielman booth for pictures. I went there for my own a few weeks ago and the pics were rejected! I managed to get a refund and went to a local photography shop, which guarantees their photos will be accepted. It cost exactly the same as in the booth! They said a lot of booth photos don't get accepted.

Feel better soon!

Max Speilman guarantee them, you get a code that confirms it although I don't know what you mean by a booth, a person takes the photo

Max Spielmann also operate the booths, so I thought that's what PP were referring to! But yeah, get it done in person, much more reliable!
