Coffee machine

Could someone recommend a good coffee machine, it's a gift for my mum. She drinks lattes and cappuccinos, and would like to be able to make her own rather than popping out every day to a coffee shop. I am a tea drinker so I don't have a clue what to look for.

Flexible on budget, so all recommendations welcome

We got my FIL a dolce Gousto that he's quite happy with

Are you looking for a machine where you put the capsules in and press a button or one where you grind the coffee and steam the milk?

We have the Sage Barista Bean to Cup which we love and use multiple times a day. We got ours from Lakeland and managed to get an extra 20% off by signing up to their My Lakeland card so it lessened the pain of the price!

@baubletits ooo I'd love a sage! Trying to convince none coffee drinking DH that we definitely need one!

Aeropress. Plus a milk frother.

I’d go bean to cup like the poster above suggested.

we have a delonghi caffe corso and it makes georgous coffee bean to cup is better for eco as you dont use plastic pods expensive intiialy but ours is ten years old now and still works well

When you say flexible on budget that Sage machine above is over £700 but I am sure worth it. We managed to get a Delonghi Magnifica S bean to cup in the sale for £350 that was 9 years ago, it keeps a tally of coffees so we know how much it has paid for itself over the years compared to buying a coffee out especially now with working from home. Plus it cleans itself which is a bonus.

So would she want to grind her own beans or have it done for her or does she want a pod machine?

I've got a Sage Creatista. It
Makes a fab latte.

Toddlerteaplease · 05/03/2024 21:22

It uses Nespresso capsules

I absolutely love it. In the event of a fire I will be found running to the door with it in my arms. I resent going out for coffee and paying a ridiculous amount when I can make just as good a coffee at home #smugathomebarista😎

Thanks all. The sage looks very professional. It looks quite hard to use, but perhaps that's just me. It would definitely have to be relatively easy to use, would pods be easier?

It's fairly straightforward in my experience, however I have made coffees when working in a cafe so already knew what to do with the milk. DH didn't have any experience however he now makes a cracking latte (and his milk is silkier than mine!)

Sometimes it does feel a bit of a faff to make a coffee though, which is when I then switch the kettle on for a cup of tea! I've not got any experience with pod coffee machines but they would definitely be more convenient 😊

Look for something with an automatic milk frother (your Mum will thank you!)

I have a Jura (expensive but makes excellent coffee at the touch of a button).

Also highly rated are the De'Longhi (range of prices), Philips Lattego and Melitta (also range of prices). These are all bean to cup not coffee pods.

I'm probably nearer your mum's age and really couldn't be bothered with the milk frother gadgets and all the washing up but I like cappuccino or lattes ( have about 4 a day). I have had the cheapest nespresso pod machine in the past but my latest is the L'Or machine which was half price at Argos before xmas and I'm finding it better as it's hotter for my asbestos mouth, was only about £65 and uses any of the nespresso compatible pods you can find in the supermarkets, including Aldi's which are very good and less than 20p each cup.
I simply microwave whatever amount of milk I want in the cup then one press of the button to add the coffee, the machines create a certain amount of froth anyway (the purists will call it crema) which I find perfectly sufficient, I even have a little cocoa shaker for the top😋

Omg, I was just looking for gift ideas for my mums birthday in November and did you end up finding a good coffee machine? xx

Went into John Lewis the other day and I got shown a Siemens coffee machine which looks really fancy, and a SMEG one which was rather loud if I am honest. They are a bit on the spennier side so not sure if I should just get like a normal Tassimo one or something
