Dyspraxia and ‘slushy’ speech

I wasn’t sure where to post this but I need some advice regarding my DS who is 17. He has dyspraxia and dyslexia but has learned over the years how to cope and I’m so proud of him for being so determined to overcome his difficulties. However, one thing that worries me now he is older is his speech. He has a fantastic vocabulary but his speech is quite ‘sloppy’ ie: he produces quite a lot of saliva and doesn’t always articulate his words properly, particularly when he is excited. He had speech therapy at primary school but was signed off by the SALT after a couple of years.

He has low self-esteem and over-thinks everything but he hasn’t ever mentioned that he thinks his speech is a problem. He would love a girlfriend but I worry that his speech issues will affect him being able to get to that stage. I’m also worried about how he’ll get on in the work place.

I’m wondering if I should look into getting speech therapy for him but then I don’t want to highlight a problem that he hasn’t raised as an issue iyswim.

Any advice?
