Please tell me I'm not the only one to have bought something and regret it?

We're doing a refresh downstairs, thought I'd get some extra storage space in the kitchen buying a bigger cabinet than the little one we've got.

Except, the fucker now dominates the whole room, and as it's new white, it's making my 16y old white kitchen look completely yellow Blush

It's only been there 4 days, but it's got to go. DH spent ages building it up, so you can
Imagine the eye raise it got when I said I regret getting it. Hmm

FFS please tell me I'm not alone. This cabinet fucker is now taunting me every I go in the room.

My sofa and chair in the living room. I detest it beyond reason.

I’ve put up with it for two years and that’s it. I’m replacing it this year at great expense, and it’ll be worth every penny.

Fucking thing.

Oh definitely. I bought really good-quality (and expensive) curtains for the living room only to realise that they block out half the light.

I don’t know if it counts, but my mattress (now gone) was an INSTANT regret scenario. It was like a block of wood. I couldn’t believe it.

I have two ageing Ektorp sofas and sometimes think it would be nice to get something else, but I know beyond a shadow of a doubt I would regret it within six months. Possibly even within a week. When they eventually fall apart I’ll be getting new Ektorps, I’m sure of it.

Could you have the sofas reupholstered?
Our well made sofa has been reupholstered twice.

Yes. Curtains which dominate the whole room. Hate them.but have pulled the cords so can't return them.

Oh yes, they’re from good old Ikea and I buy new covers every few years or so when the old ones get tatty. They’re truly excellent quality for the price. It’s just that I sometimes feel that I’d like a bit of a change. I try to live reasonably sustainably so that’s the first barrier, but frankly I don’t think I’m going to find anything else that’s so comfy!

Littlecatsfeet · 04/03/2024 06:41

Of course, I don't think you can buy much without having a few regrets!

Could you paint the cabinet a different colour?

muddyford · 04/03/2024 06:51

Yep. Nest of tables that don't match anything else. A friend said we all did weird buying things during and after lockdown - this was one of mine. And some cheap dining chairs that said birch veneer but turned out to have the lovely pale wood varnished a horrid yellow. Both things are on my replacement list.

I had really solid, comfortable leather sofas that were looking worn (and a bit dated). I spent over 3k replacing them with more modern looking fabric ones which DH was protesting about and I'm really disappointed with them. I wish I'd got the leather ones repaired and bought some nice throws.

We once bought a sofa that was just too big. Thank goodness the shop agreed to take it back even though we’d had it for a few days by then.

Furniture always appears smaller in a vast showroom, so now I take measurements and make a newspaper template to go on the floor, so I can see exactly how much space it’s going to take up.

We used to have a sideboard I never really liked even when we bought it - let myself be persuaded by a salesman, in Liberty’s - and it wasn’t cheap!

But it sat there for a few decades until a Dsis downsized and didn’t have room for her much nicer one. So we paid for transport over 200 miles plus a charity donation, and the good old British Heart Foundation took the old one. 🙂

littlecatsfeet I did think if a different color may make it better, but I think it's just too big, I want to kick the big bastard everytime I walk past it Grin

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER your tip of making the mock up is well noted for next time
