Any recent experiences of sending flowers?

I’ll be sending my mother flowers for Mothers Day and also separately May send some following a death.

What company do you recommend or not? (I did look for similar recent threads but didn’t find one but feel free to just link instead. I know it is quite a regular topic.)

We use bloom and wild and the flowers are always beautiful

The local florist wanted £15 to deliver a bouquet to my late Mum. She lived 5 minutes walk from them. Conversely a florist in the next town sent a beautiful bouquet with free delivery.

They will have taken the delivery cost out of the money you paid for your flowers. It's never 'free'.

We have two delivery drivers wages to pay, upkeep on the vans, diesel, tax, congestion charge and ULEZ to take into account.

We charge a delivery fee to cover all of that in the same way that we take a token amount out of your bouquet to cover the mechanics involved like packaging.

We are just more transparent about it.

Also we have about 150 deliveries going out on Sunday. We don't have the resources to 'just walk' ones that are 5 minutes away ( 10 minutes round trip ).

I wish more people understood how retailing works.

Marks and Spencer and never been disappointed

B&M Flowers. Don’t laugh! Used them half a dozen times now, lovely flowers, recipients have been delighted. Fantastic value for money. Delivered in a plain box, no hint of company.

We've used a few local independents and usually disappointed with them unfortunately. Usually don't last very long, and often they've sent nothing like what we asked for.

We kept trying different ones to see if we could find one that actually sent "fresh" flowers that we asked for, but not found one yet.

@MrsSkylerWhite Although I always call a local florist, I had no idea B&M did flower deliveries! Mind blown!

I've been disappointed with Bloom & Wild in recent times, to the point where I've stopped using them for any sensitive deliveries; I don't want to risk sending wilting blooms to someone who's ill or bereaved.

I like finding growers you can send directly from, eg, Smith & Munson grow gorgeous lilies, and the tubes of tulips are fab, if a bit on the expensive side.

but YY to supporting local florists too - whenever I've phoned up and talked to an actual human being, the flowers have always been really good. And if it gets them a new customer for the future, so much the better. It's tough running a small business right now.

I have rung independent florists and also used bunches.

I just looked at Bloom and Wild as mentioned so often and B&M as was a surprise. The Bloom and Wild ones were not well arranged for the photos whereas the B&M ones were. That was a shock.

They really are good. We used them out of necessity first time, broke 😁 have continued through choice though as they’ve been so well received.

In the end I used Bloom and Wilde and flowers look great. (I looked up the local florist and remembered that they got a number of flower orders when a neighbour was ill. Each person ordered the same bouquet and the neighbour thought maybe they could have suggested a different onev(many similar prices). (We saw that the flowers were lovely)

I've had a couple of big disappointments with Next over the last year or so, they used to be my go to. Now I use M&S or Moonpig.

mimiasovitch · 15/03/2024 17:49

I bought a flower subscription for my MIL for Christmas and searched for reviews on here. I went with Arena flowers and so far (3 deliveries) they've been superb. I assume they also do one off bouquets.

RedRosie · 15/03/2024 19:20

I'm glad they were nice in the end OP. I would usually use a proper florist local to the recipient and phone them/pay over the phone. This is because it supports small businesses (New Year's resolution!).

I often send arrangements (so she doesn't have to do anything other than water them) to my elderly mother. Arrangements rather than bouquets are a good tip for the elderly or bereaved.
