Something nice to do in London tomorrow evening with my 80 year old mum

Off to London tomorrow, taking my mum for a birthday treat to the Chanel exhibition at the V&A on Tuesday. We are staying in South Kensington.

We'll spend tomorrow afternoon looking at haberdashery and ribbons (she is really into sewing). Any suggestions for a nice restaurant in the Regent St vicinity?

Was thinking of booking a show, it's very last minute I know, I took dd to Cabaret which we absolutely adored, but I think The Mousetrap might be more mum's taste!

She's very fit so no mobility issues thankfully. She does love a good complain though, so trying to avoid that by planning ahead!

Nothing to add except you’re both going to love the Chanel exhibition, it’s wonderful. I’m a V&A member and I’ve been three times. The Diva exhibition is worth a look too while you’re there.

I second Zedels. It's great!

Take her to see Hamilton, if you can get tickets it's amazing.

@christologymum i know it's popular, but personally I'd rather watch paint dry.

@capelmustard I hope you have a wonderful time!

i wouldn't take my (81yo) Mum to an evening show because she'd fall asleep!! She's a worrier & doesn't sleep well. She's also a morning person, got her steps in before most people awake!

... & I'm not far behind her, especially if it's too hot, which I find most theatres are!

You do know that Macculloch & Wallis are in Poland Street, to the east of Regent Street? They moved from Dering Street a few years ago. They close at 6pm.

Liberty's haberdashery department is a shadow of its former self and hardly worth a visit. But the fabric department still stocks a lot of Liberty fabric. They close at 8pm.

One Life might be more like it? Can't wait to see that one myself.

Have just realised it's a bit late for more suggestions!

Another vote for Bar Zedel... old fashioned service, classic food, good wine list. Right on Piccadilly.

Hiw did your evening go @capelmustard ? Hope you and your mum had a lovely day

TempersFuggit · 07/03/2024 17:26

Yes do tell @capelmustard

I actually find central London too busy and chaotic now, I hope you found the perfect spot for your evening.

I would take her to Brasserie Zedel for food. It is very beautiful inside, atmospheric, spacious and in a slightly less chaotic location than some parts of Soho. Bob Bob Ricard could also be a good bet.

I've just RTFT and seen many other people had already recommended Zedel, apologies!
