Would you upgrade to business class and leave your adult children in economy?

Going on a villa holiday with grown up kids. Dh and I have enough points to upgrade the return flight to business class. We don’t have enough for the kids. Everyone is going to pay their share of the trip.

Would you upgrade yourself and leave your adult kids in economy? Dh thinks it’s a bit mean, and I think I’d be slightly peeved if they did it to me. But hey, why not.

It’s fine - just explain you have points you need to use up

Violettaa · 02/03/2024 18:30

Yep! I’ve been the adult kid in that scenario and I totally understood. If they feel strongly they can pay.

lifebeginsaftercoffee · 02/03/2024 18:31

If it was going to leave one child alone then probably not, but if there's two of them then I can't see the issue.

Absolutely fine. My parents have done this before and I would make same decision when mine are older. Don’t think I could get away with leaving a four year old 😄

welshcakes6 · 02/03/2024 18:31

Your title reminded me home alone 😂 no but seriously if they are adults then sure don't see a problem wouldn't be angry with my mum for doing this 🥰

Mazuslongtoenail · 02/03/2024 18:32

I think it’s fine. But I would do it on the next holiday when we travelled solo if that was going to be happening I think.

Toomuch44 · 02/03/2024 19:30

I wouldn't say it's mean, my main issue would be that if I'm going on holiday with people, I'd want the banter and enjoyment of being near them on the plane.

fishfingersandtoes · 02/03/2024 19:32

Hahaha. Yes!

Rosiiee · 02/03/2024 19:34

Yes. My parents used to do that all the time when I was little! They used to book me in as an unaccompanied minor yet fly on the same flight in business. It was always the norm for me so didn’t realise this wasn’t normal until way later in life 😂

TraitorsGate · 02/03/2024 19:36

If they are paying for themselves can they upgrade or maybe everyone goes premium economy

TraitorsGate · 02/03/2024 19:37

How long is the flight

Geebray · 02/03/2024 19:38

I think it's a bit shitty. I have adult DCs.

Bloody hell! They're like monster sitcom parents.

And no, if I were going on holiday with my children - and I have holidayed with adult children - I would want to share the whole experience.

ALunchbox · 02/03/2024 19:46

I wouldn't. I'd keep the points for another trip.

Leapyearday · 02/03/2024 19:49

I think it's mean and could be interpreted that you haven't enjoyed the holiday and can't wait to see the back of them. You should all travel together.

MyLadyTheKingsMother · 02/03/2024 19:50

Fuck yes 🤣

RokaandRoll · 02/03/2024 19:52

If you just fancy business then no. But if you have aches and pains and are at an age where a little luxury would really help you get through a long flight (my father is like this) then that would be a good enough reason in my opinion.

I agree.

Yep I would
