Do I need to paint/gloss before I leave?

Hello all,

I live in an housing association flat, I have decided to move to a ground floor flat because I'm disabled and my stairs are getting too much for me.

There's a few small repairs that need done before I move, Booking them in on Monday.

The living room and kitchen need painting and glossing, no damage on the walls or doors etc just needs painting as not been done for about 8 years! Rest of the rooms are fine as recently painted them.

Do I need to paint before I leave or are they more bothered about repairs and major damage etc?

I expect it varies and you need to ask you HA. My friend recently moved into a council flat and the council painted (badly) over the previous tenants beautifully painted and maintained walls (friend saw it when old deco was intact, and then when she got the keys the council had given everything one coat of magnolia with other colours showing through). Bloody stupid, apparently their standard practice - but if your HA has a similar procedure it'd be pointless for you to paint.

It's true. I know someone who was forced to remove wooden floors and all sorts. Ridiculous really.

You need to check. When we moved in, ours was a mess and they gave us £50 b&q voucher to help cover costs of decorating (didn't touch the sides!) We were told when we left if we left anything at all (including carpets) there would be a £100 cleaning fee. This was cheaper than a skip, so we left what we didn't need
