Dry Scalp - Help!

HunterHearstHelmsley · 29/02/2024 20:10

Any advice will be greatly welcomed!

My scalp is ridiculously dry and I've got little scabby patches. It doesn't matter what I've tried, they just keep coming back within 12 hours or so.

I've tried various shampoos and treatments.. Coal Tar, Head & Shoulders, Oilatum. The various ones that advertise dry scalp healing. I've tried rosemary oil, nut oils. Not washing my hair too much, washing my hair every day.

Nothing seems to work.

Has anyone else had this issue? What worked for you?

Over the years, I've had short periods of having a dry scalp but this has been going on for over a year now.

I’ve had eczema/psoriasis on my scalp for about quarter of a century. It’s been clear since a couple of months after I started using MooGoo shampoo and conditioner. Game changer. Hair is in fab condition too.

@HunterHearstHelmsley I couldn't read and run - I have suffered like this for many years and always love to share something which worked for me. I'd tried all sorts of ointments, prescriptions you name it! But the one thing that has left my scalp completely clear, no itching, no redness and no dryness is from The Body Shop - Ginger care shampoo and conditioner. It's not cheap but it's so worth it! 🤞🏼🥰

I'm scared to buy it if they're going bust, that would be just my luck 🤣

I'll definitely order some. I'll try anything, thank you!

I'd never even heard of that brand! I'll check them out. Thank you 😊

Neither the body shop ginger or moogoo worked for me.

Nizarol did, but it’s very drying. But the one that’s knocked my socks off is ‘As l am dry and itchy’ shampoo.

Nailed it. Also nailed my daughters including the eczema on the back of her neck.

Cismyfatarse · 29/02/2024 20:31

Moo Goo is amazing. Sorted me out too.

ExcitingRicotta · 29/02/2024 20:32

Have you tried E45 shampoo? I found this much more gentle and moisturising than the ones you’ve mentioned and sorted me out.
Oat baths?

Bluemeadowbaby · 29/02/2024 20:33

@HunterHearstHelmsley oh no!! Are they really?! I'm so out the loop with things these days 🙈 but if they are thanks for the heads up I will stock up 😄 their shampoo and conditioner lasts me 8 weeks as don't need a lot! Just in case you do sample lol x

That's interesting. I tried that shampoo and it made my scalp sting. It's crazy that what works for one person doesn't work for someone else.

Same problem. Nothing works or if it does it's very short term. I used to get on with body shop ginger by not anymore. Currently been trying Johnson's baby shampoo. Again was ok to begin with but not now.

Bemyclementine · 29/02/2024 20:42

I have this too. The head and shoulders derma range works best for me. I did try body shop, and also ordered some really quite expensive suggestions, 1 was ok but I just couldn't afford it.

Shampoo bar soaps are great for my scalp but awful for my hair.

@HunterHearstHelmsley Good luck!
I also just remembered that if really bad I used to actually moisturise my scalp with something like diprobase or Aveeno in the evening, so that my hair was reaaaally greasy, then wash it in the morning with the E45 (put a towel on your pillow or something). In case you’re not already trying this. And for me washing less was definitely best, but generally eczema prone.

The dandruff matters website is good. There are 2 types of dandruff and you need to work out which type and treat accordingly.
