Responsible for a faulty electric meter?

Hi. I wanted to know who is in charge of changing a faulty electric meter? Which I believe is installing a smart meter.

My electric bill (like everyone’s) has gone through the roof and my provider (UW) added an additional £1000 to my bill last year because of my meter reading (apparently I was underpaying and they refused to set up a payment plan for this because they couldn’t believe my meter readings could reduce).

After complaining to the ombudsman this is the agreement:

  • Exchange your faulty meter
  • Review your usage from the new meter and re-bill your account
  • Add a £200 goodwill gesture to your account
  • Remove debt collections from your account
  • Set up an affordable payment plan
  • Issue a letter of apology

I rent. Should I contact my landlord? Is it my responsibility to “let them in” and chance the faulty meter?

The meter belongs to the electricity company, so they should be arranging to change it. Speak to them directly to book it in.
