Starting a new job at 11 weeks pregnant

Just accepted a job. Start in 2 weeks when I will be 11 weeks pregnant

due in September and hiring lady mentioned a business trip she would like me to go on in September

I feel anxious. Am I doing the right thing? Currently not working and really need the money. When do I tell her I’m pregnant? I haven’t had my scan yet, hesitant to say as it’s still early but worried she could revoke the offer. I can work up until august as most women do. Scared she will be angry if I tell her later on down the line

Don't say a word until you're ready (and before deadline) A lot can happen, you've not had your scan yet, the business can get someone to travel in your place.

Start the job, have your scan, then let them know the news. Lie if you have to and say you weren't sure what to do or whatever makes it easier for you to face that conversation.

Yea businesses value honesty but let's be real, a candidate saying at this stage "oh no don't book the flights" without telling them the real reason (so youre protected) would very likely result in the offer being withdrawn.

Remember that it's a business, there to make money, they are not a social enterprise, and if they ever wanted to get rid of you they would eventually do so without a seconds consideration about "being honest"

It's none of works business when any of us get pregnant.

Someone started at my work 3 months pregnant and no one knew and she came back from maternity leave 3 months pregnant and went off again 6 months later.
Shes been back a year and flying. If it's a long term role then it shouldn't matter.

What does matter is how hard you work and the impact you make. When you eventually deliver the news, do it with empathy and acknowledge the trip and the interview and take it from there.

My only concern is the comments on 'I need the money' it doesn't sound like you're invested in this job, sounds like you think it's boring and I don't know if you will truly put the hard yards in.

The job is fine - not my dream job but its similar to things ive done in the past and will be able to do it well without needing any hand holding.

When she asked about travel i said yes i can do it but circumstances do change, she is a mum herself. September business travel i didnt agree to, i am already booked to go to 2 conferences in the next 3 weeks after i start. i am not booked for anything for september yet. Thanks for all of your supportive and helpful comments. DH is also out of work currently so money really is the biggest factor right now. i want to do as much as poss for the baby and i am fit and able to work.

Is this gonna be the right job for you anyway since it involves overseas travel? I don't want to be presumptuous as I don't know your post baby plans, but would you really want to be travelling abroad after your mat leave? I still wouldn't want to do that and my youngest is 16. Would you not be happier temping in any case?

Temping is bringing in hardly any money, i still have 6/7 months where i can work full time so want to take advantage. no idea what we will want to do post baby. i just know for now i need to work for my sanity and also baby

Genuinely if your goal is to work here until your baby is born, tell them about your pregnancy. Once they know you are protected.

Baby on the way and both of you have been out of a job, that sounds stressful. Will DH have job security when you head out on maternity leave?

Yes we may even emigrate next year when baby is old enough. I need a stop gap until September to rebuild our savings

I know it isn’t ideal for a business but I have a. Family I need to think of and do what’s best. Just like any company would do

It’s a bit of a rotten thing to do in a small business, it’s much more difficult for small business to absorb these things.
You are now saying that you might not go back after your maternity leave anyway. Your situation is really more suited to temping. I’m sorry things are so stressful with both you and your husband out of permanent employment.
