'What's the most scatty thing you've ever done? "

I once - on a very tired day admittedly - tried to put the kettle back into the fridge instead of the milk.

And once every few years I'll look for my sunglasses only to find them on my head.

But I think the most embarrassing was I'd just moved into an new apartment and there were a row of identical ones.

The doors all unlock with this automatic key thing, so it wasn't until I was standing in the middle of the hallway with a strange guy looking at me that I realised I was in the wrong apartment. He hadn't locked his door!

I've gone to the shop to get milk, picked up a few things at the shop and came back home - having forgotten to get milk...

...twice! 🤦‍♀️

I saw a plant in my garden and wasn't sure if it was a nettle. I decided to find out by taking my foot out of my sandal and using it to stroke the plant.

It was a nettle.

ALongHardWinter · 29/02/2024 16:41

Sent out several party invitations, forgetting to put the actual date of said party on them.

InMySpareTime · 29/02/2024 16:41

Phoned someone and got the answerphone, left a message "hi, it's Sparetime, can you please call me back on...erm....hang on a sec I forgot"
Called them back and left a second message "hi, Sparetime again, my number is 0...dammit, it's gone again" (yes it was getting embarrassing by this point).
Put the phone down, found my own number in an address book and wrote it on my hand for better memory retention, then called the number for the third time and recited my number off my hand.
I had been in that house with that number for 6 years at that point.

Another time I was getting a lift back home and forgot which street it was on so made them drive round for a bit until I saw something familiar.

Left the house without shoes. Only realised when I stood on a pebble at the end of the street.

Was woken from a nap by the window cleaner informing me "you've left your keys in the door again". The word "again" was the real Blush as it meant I had done it a lot more than once, and the window cleaner had noticed and remembered that.

Drove home from work to my old house. Fortunately they were only two miles apart and I realised before trying to get in.
Talking to my mum discussing where to meet her while getting stuff ready and panicking I couldn't find my phone, until she asked what I was talking to her on. Yep, the phone I couldn't find.
Went to a uni lecture wearing a dressing gown. To be fair I kept it on the hook next to my coat and was very hungover.

TeamSpike · 29/02/2024 16:54

I'm blaming baby brain for mine. I'm a nursery cook and the other day I was storming around asking everyone where all my mixing bowls were, I'm so tired of being taking things and not putting them back. When one of the staff said "didn't I see you making jelly in them?" Ffs they were in the fridge with jelly for the next day.
Also, went to subway and ordered my sandwich and paid then left it on the counter and went to get in my car before I realised and walked back in to the staff giving me a very funny look

Looking for my phone under the bed using the flashlight on my phone!

Haha I do a similar thing, where I'm saying 'where's my phone?' to the person on the other end of the phone that I'm holding to my ear.

saveforthat · 29/02/2024 17:08

Similar to @NotanotherboxofFrogs I was playing scrabble and we had wine and snacks on the table. Put my hand in the scrabble bag instead of the crisp bowl and got a mouthful of tiles.

TheBayLady · 29/02/2024 17:51

Left my newborn outside of a shop, even walked passed the pram on the way out, only realised when i was nearly home. Baby was sound asleep and none the wiser.

BearSoFair · 29/02/2024 18:04

Left the house with DC for the school run, locked the door...posted the keys through the letter box. "How are you going to get back in Mum?" I had to call DH who took a VERY early lunch hour to come home and open the door!

MrsMoastyToasty · 29/02/2024 18:05

Gone into work on my rostered day off.

It was a department that was staffed 24/7 and they were short staffed So they were pleased to see me...and I got 8 hours overtime pay.

stoppedwindows · 01/03/2024 12:03

Went to visit a friend in London for the weekend. She'd moved and for some reason I'd not copied down her address or phone number on my phone. I remembered the street name. So I arrived in her street having driven down from the midlands on a Friday night parked up and walked up and down her street calling her name and trying to guess which flat might be hers. I knocked on a few doors and asked if they knew a "Susie" no-one did and most of them thought I was a potential burglar or something dodgy and were probably alerting the local neighbourhood watch. So it's getting late and I either find a cheap hotel or drive back home. I decided I'd have one last try and tried to guess what kind of curtains and decor she'd have, and I found it!! She'd left the curtains open and I recognised the decor.

Trying to 'scroll' the page of a book...
Not being able to find the phone that was in my hand so started to look for my phone so I could use it to ring it....

Sunglasses on the head is normal.
On a very bright day, trying to put on a pair of sunglasses whilst already wearing another pair otoh...

And today I tried to do it with reading glasses.Confused

Watchkeys · 01/03/2024 12:26

I had a day off ahead of me, so I went to the bookshop nice and early, with the idea to spend all morning reading in my armchair. Got back, got some breakfast, then went to get the book... nowhere to be seen. I looked all morning, and when lunchtime came and I took a break from looking... I went to the fridge. Nice chilled book waiting for me!

Acinonyx2 · 01/03/2024 12:38

So so many. How about putting a hot water bottle in the bed - but forgetting to put the stopper in - and trying to dry the bed out with a hair dryer....

DatingDinosaur · 01/03/2024 12:43

Answered the TV remote when the phone rang 🤐

Dfg15 · 01/03/2024 12:48

Parked in a pub car park, went and had a nice leisurely lunch with a friend, walked back to the car after and found it with keys in the ignition and engine running

DatingDinosaur · 01/03/2024 12:53

Oh, speaking of cars - I've gone to the local shops on my way home from work. Parked up in the shop's car park. Got my shopping.

Walked home.

Panicked when I looked out of the window later and my car was missing.

MuggleMe · 01/03/2024 13:15

I've left my bunch of keys in the lock on the outside of the door at least 3 times when my children were younger, and at least twice I've not noticed a child has left their car door wide open and had a neighbour knock to tell me (once it had been raining).

Snoopystick · 01/03/2024 13:17

Drove to a friend’s new house about an hour away to have a meal. As I got closer to the town she had moved to realised I’d left my mobile at home, I didn’t have her full address and couldn’t ring her to tell her.

DaftFlerken · 01/03/2024 13:23

popped to the petrol station a 5 min walk from my office to get a sandwich & only realised when I got back to the office that I'd taken my car this time & just left it sat at the pump

MrsDanversGlidesAgain · 01/03/2024 13:24

Keys in the door..yep, luckily had only popped around the corner.
Scraped plate into washing up bowl and chucked plate in bin
Didn't think the 'looking for glasses that you're wearing' was possible until I did it
Turned up for new job medical a week early.
Times I've gone to the supermarket and walked out without what I came for in the first place...numberless. That's why I now write a list.

Jessforless · 01/03/2024 13:32

This week I poured all the pasta into the sink without the strainer.

A lot of it was salvageable but… why?!

beachcomber70 · 01/03/2024 13:40

At the end of a day I once started washing my face whilst wearing my glasses.

I've also walked home leaving my 3 month old baby outside the bakers. [In the days when it was common to park the pram outside]. I must have gone back in my mind to my child free years. I raced back and he was asleep and ok and still there.
