Help - my iPhone has died for no reason, won’t turn on

No idea what’s wrong with it, I left it plugged in last night charging and it’s just completely black screen this morning. I’ve tried another plug incase the plug socket wasn’t working. Obviously pressing the power button isn’t waking it up.

i don’t know how I can actually work today as I can’t log onto the work computer system without getting a text message. I’ve got an important meeting at 9am 🙈

You have the black screen of death I’d imagine…I’ve been there a few times.Do you have insurance because I think your phone is no more.

We just started the authinication thing at my work on your phone. We have all said what if your phone breaks. Hope you get it sorted.

This is going to sound really stupid but are you sure you haven't just accidentally turned the brightness right down on your screen? I did this once and it took me ages of randomly trying to find the right place on the screen to turn it back up!

lifebeginsaftercoffee · 29/02/2024 08:03

Mine has done this before - I just left it charging and it turned back on eventually.

I think if the battery gets too low it takes ages to reboot it.

BurntOrangeAutumn · 29/02/2024 08:04

Battery could be gone? Or a crack inside the screen that you can't see would make the screen all black.

This happened to me several times. I went to Apple shop and they scanned it. By the time I got appointment with them it was back to normal. Then it happened again and went there again. This time they said it's a known problem but should be fixed with new update. I have SE2022. Kids have SE2020 and it hasn't happen to them. After the update it hasn't happened again.

Similar happened to my less than two year old iPad. It had completely died so Apple gave me a new one without question. Sorry, I know that doesn’t help you now but it may save you a significant sum if having to replace your phone and it is still fairly new.

I was about to suggest this. I've also done this. Have someone ring the phone to see unless it is on silent.

My phone did this. It hadn't died as the circle button still pressed if. The next day it had died i charged it up and it worked fine. No idea what happened.

Well I managed to get the sim cards swapped over, unlocked my android phone to o2. had multiple nervous breakdowns. Drove to a mobile phone place inbetween meetings, stood in the queue, tried the volume button thing again while waiting and it came back on like nothing was wrong with it.

It’s like taking a sick child to the GP who stages a miraculous recovery in the waiting room!
Glad to hear it’s working again.

CormorantStrikesBack · 29/02/2024 15:41

I’m just so glad I hadn’t got as far as giving it to the man and for him to turn it on perfectly first time 🙈😆

Still needs checking though. Think you should get apple to run their diagnostics tests on it anyway.
