Sky cancelled our contract early

Normally you see others tring to end their contracts with sky early. In our case, Sky finished our contract early stating that another provider has "claimed the line". I wonder if anyone had similar.

We had our sky contact finish and go up from 38 to 89 pounds. My husband tried to haggle but only got it down to 45 pounds, when compared to a virgin deal this was 300 quid more a year, so he decided to go with virgin. The contract was set to finish on the 14th of march and Virgin broadband set up for the same date. Two weeks ago, Sky sends us a message stating that Virgin has "claimed the line" and therefore sky is stopping our broadband three weeks before contract end. No amount of arguing on the phone helped. Virgin are saying there's nothing they can do to move the setup forward either. Problem is both I and my husband work from home at least twice a week. My main annoyance is that baby camera now doesn't work either. We bought some ee data at big expense but to be honest it's quite rubbish and babycam won't connect 😭 is there anything at all we can do? Husband's not getting anywhere with either provider and google search is not coming back with anything even remotely similar as the "claiming the line" bs.

Broadband changes when the new one starts, I had this when I cancelled and they said effectively it won't end until the new one starts even though tv would end on fixed date.

Surely if virgin have claimed it that means it should start now?

I have only ever switched providers and they started and ended at the same time. My last switch which was from talktalk to sky, it ended with talktalk on a fixed date and sky immediately took over the line. No lose of connection.

Virgin runs differently to Sky and BT so I wonder if that has something to do with it?

We've swapped between BT and Sky multiple times over the years to get the best deal and have never had this issue.

Not sure if this helps but you could buy a 4g or 5g 'Mifi' device from Amazon / ebay and then data from somewhere like EE. From memory I think it's about £40 for the device and then you can buy a bolt on of data for around £60 ( which lasts for a year I believe)
I did this while waiting for my new internet connection for a month or so. I then used it while camping and sold on the device when I didn't need anymore

Thinking about it as well - don't you need a virgin phone line? So they may have set that up in advance and therefore sky cannot deliver broadband.

Are you trying to keep the same phone number when you switch to Virgin? That is the only thing I can think of that would cause your Sky package to end, as they use completely different networks (you could have both Sky and Virgin at the same time, in theory, as long as you are using different phone numbers).

Did you cancel your contract with Sky before signing up with Virgin? If so it might be a problem similar to this person's? https://helpforum.sky.com/t5/Broadband/Cease-in-the-broadband-line/td-p/4359734

No, the contract with sky is supposed to finish 14th of March. So we technically still have contract with them just no flipping services!

You would think so, but no. Virgin say they need to set up a line. And noone in Virgin helpdesk can tell me when that's going to happen even though the broadband official start date is 14 th of March

We got an EE hub, 60 quid it cost me and it barely works. Babycam doesn't work, my laptop can't run most websites. Super super slow. My husband just about manages to do some work using it.

We don't have a landline nor want one. We also used to have virgin at the property before. So god knows what they are on about.
