Dyson airstyler curls not lasting

Hair is wet but bot dripping, have tried products before styling and hairspray after. The damn curls fall out after a couple of hours! I have fine hair. Have tried texturising spray, curling cream, sea salt spray ..... how can I get them to hold?

In my experience you can’t 😢I have tried every single product, YouTube tip, even went into the dyson store for it to be styles, curls were back out within a hour. I also have fine hair but even with extensions they just wouldn’t hold, it’s just not hot enough for my hair. I have tried it twice and twice had to send it back after trying every single thing I could. Curls via a straightener/tong last fine in my hair

Have you tried your hair almost dry? Mine works when it is only ever so slightly damp, I used a texturing spray to give the hair a chance to grip, it is the kind that makes running your fingers through your hair difficult and I use a heat hold spray before curling, specifically this one which I get on Amazon. Might be worth one last attempt.

For me if I want curls to last all day and into the next day then a curling wand is the only thing that will work. That is a 180 degree heat though. Dyson will do softer curls but the next day it is literally out.

The best instructions I have found for the Dyson is Fleur DeForce and I think it is a more realistic outcome which is soft curls at the bottom once you run your fingers through it, rather than barrel ringlets. I suppose it depends what look you are after.

Wet to dry definitely helps, clipping each curl in place as soon as you take out the styler so the curl can cool before it drops also helps. I use silver pin curl clips vertically. Hairspray before taking clips out. A lot of faff I know.

chopc · 29/02/2024 06:16

@LuckyCharmz i already try this but now I think maybe I need to keep in here heat setting a little longer before changing it to cool 🤔

@chopc test the temp of your hair whilst it is on the barrel, so heat and then keep touching, you want it to get as hot as it does but hold it on at the top temp, my personal count is 15 seconds before I cool shot it. It depends on hair thickness and how much hair you wrap around the barrel. The heat needs to penetrate all the way through the hair. I think having your hair dryer might help as you won't feel like you are holding it in place for a long time. Mine is as dry as the video above but it still feels like it has some dampness to it. Try out different lengths of time per section and see which one holds the best.

I use that L'Oreal product which is what they use in hairdressing competitions where they do mad hair styles, I saw it on Youtube. I thought well if it can help hold that I will try it and it works for me.

Glad I read this before I invested. My hair is like cat hair, it’s so fine. How long is everyone’s hair? Mine’s a grown out bob (accidental lob?)

yourlobster · 29/02/2024 07:05

My hairdresser also told me to curl when almost dry and it does work better. I'll try clipping and spraying the curl too.

Mmmmpavlova · 29/02/2024 07:06

My hairdresser said that whether the airwrap works for you is massively dependant on your hair type. For some people it's just pointless (I am one - fine to normal, naturally straight hair). But for my friend who has naturally thick and slightly curly hair, it is amazing....

@Mmmmpavlova 🙈
@DelightSquish yes I thinking I am not keeping it under sleep for long enough

I may have cracked it - products as previous but ensuring it has heated up adequately before putting cold shot
