I'm in peri menopause hell. I'm on HRT and doing all of the things I'm supposed to.

But please gather and tell me how bloody marvellous you feel "on the other side"! I need to share your light that was at the end of the tunnel

62, been period-free for about 8 years. No HRT. Feel better than I have done in years. Happily single, great relationship with my almost fully adult kids. Still working FT, but excited about cutting back in a year or two. Same weight as I was pre-menopause (ie a stubborn 10lbs more than I would like!) but I do have to be more active to maintain that.

I love my body, even though I don’t love looking at it IYSWIM. I’m thrilled it still lets me burn the candle at both ends and walk, run, swim, dance.

I do wonder if HRT might have kept my face from aging a bit, but having just met a face-lifted former colleague, I would rather look my age than look unreal!

Hmmmmmmm

I am post meno

I do feel better than when I was actively in meno

however, I have gained weight that’s extraordinarily difficult to shift. This really pisses me off.

I get tendon issues - wrist, shoulder etc due to lack of oestrogen. This will be a lifelong issue I think.

I have insomnia

I'm post menopause, never took HRT, and I feel good.
I'll be honest here and say that my menopause symptoms were not awful, so I never considered HRT.

Post menopause and I feel fantastic! Having suffered menstrual issues from the inner circle of hell, menopause has been a cake walk. Localised (pessary) HRT has been a big help. Night sweats were the worst symptoms, but as others have said, positive mental attitude is a huge help. But do watch out for heart health problems, I had a heart attack 18 months ago, with what would normally be considered minimal risk factors.

muddyford · 28/02/2024 13:38

It seems, anecdotally at least, that the more horrific your menstrual years (and mine were absolutely terrible) the easier the menopause. I sailed through with only raging temperature at night (not sweats). Done and dusted by 45. Now early 60s and feeling good. A younger friend asked about it this morning and I am sure walking the dogs every day helped, being in the fresh air, immersed in nature. I have vaginal oestrogen and that's it.

EdithStourton · 28/02/2024 13:43

I've never had any HRT. Menopause was miserable but I'm now fast approaching 60 and I feel really good. The brain fog has lifted, and the random aches and pains have gone (any aches and pains I get are not random, but due to old injuries).

Mallani · 28/02/2024 13:46

Mid 50s and I feel great. No more PMS - every day is a hormonal Groundhog Day. No mood swings, no irrational anger and snapiness - it's bliss (probably even more so for my family 😆).

BrassicaBabe · 28/02/2024 13:59

I'll be back. But for now.....oh fuck!!

I’m 68 and 16 years past menopause. I have arthritis and various aches and pains, but still am very active and enjoy long walks and travelling. Anxiety and night sweats lasted on and off for ten years post menopause, but I think taking hrt routinely is really a recent innovation, and I never even considered it. I suppose I just accepted feeling rough for a decade as “that’s how it is”. However, eating well, keeping fit and always being up for trying something new is what seems to keep my brain active. Have been learning Japanese for the last six years, and it has done wonders for improving my memory!

Post menopause here (4 years), still waiting to feel wonderful.....

This

MaidOfSteel · 28/02/2024 14:20

Well, I don't have the hormonal mood swings I had before the menopause; I feel much calmer. I take that as a big positive.

Elsewhere123 · 28/02/2024 14:21
  1. Still hot flushes at night sometimes and when stressed. Think my 'thermostat' in the brain permanently changed.
SuperstarDeejay · 28/02/2024 14:29

I had horrible periods during peri so just delighted that's over. Otherwise I didn't ever really feel different, and still don't. Just fatter.
