What should I do with these?!

My old housemate had a habit of stealing road signs when drunk.
He's moved out now due to lots of unacceptable drunken behaviour and he's left behind a load of signs. Big metal triangles like you'd see on the side of he road when there's roadworks. What on earth should I do with them?
I don't know where they were taken from so I can't return them, some of them are from months ago so presumeably works would have finished even if I did know where.
Does anyone know what I should do with them or know how I could return them to their owners?

Next time you notice some roadworks, drop them off under cover of darkness?
Hand in to local police station?
Is there a council depot or recycling centre near you they could be left at?

Get in touch with the highways agency maybe?

Sell them on eBay? Or at auction through the bangers and cash auction house?

I know someone who woke up one morning to find a traffic cone in her living room.

<not helpful>

How many are we talking? I'd be tempted to set them up as some sort of modern art exhibition...

<sorry, also unhelpful >

It was in the kitchen actually. That one I was able to return as it was from just outside and the workers were still there the next day.

National Highways (was Highways Agency) generally look after motorways and trunk roads. As your flatmate pinched them on the way home from nights out, they probably belong to your local council - I'd contact their Highways/Streetworks dept.

Unless there is the name of a contractor painted on them somewhere?

Find a nearby roadworks and neatly stack them up for the workers to take back (or to get stolen again)?

You can get 7 years prison for stealing road signs! Don't know if it's ever enforced.

I'd prop them up someone roadside but out of the way then find the form on the council website that allows you to report problems.
