The Omaze House

The Cotswolds House.

Mumsnetters always know what's 'wrong' with the house, and why it's being given away as a prize.

What's the story with this one, then? Just out of interest 😊.

We stayed in St Agnes once. Never again, we were nearly chased out of the local pub with pitchforks. They need a sign on the door saying no foreigners (ie people not born and bred there). It's a bit of a dump to be honest.... didn't see the attraction at all apart from the coastline. The village is split in 2 halves - the bit by the sea which can't cope with the traffic and the upper part. And the holiday let we booked was up around 150 steps... I was losing the will to live after the 3rd day!

Floatinginvacherin · 26/02/2024 19:54

I have an Omaze entry. My plan if I won would be to immediately put it on the market at well under valuation and pocket some cash.

Isn’t the Cotswold in one on a road?? I think that’s why it won’t sell, it’s a beautiful house but I would want it up a private drive so it couldn’t be seen from the road.

it was the same with the Norfolk house. Great house but visible from the road.

Eh? Re the Norfolk house, it is on the prime coastal road with all of the other homes valued at millions. The views are stunning, surely the view is the point ? And it is hardly on the A1!😂🤣

LittleSnowdropsHeraldingSpring · 26/02/2024 20:08

That is a tiny garden! Very close to neighbours too. Is it a business next door as well?

This would be my plan too.

I adore St Agnes!

St Aggy is a funny place

Not great parking but the pubs are nice. And unless the tide is really
Low it's not the biggest beach

Tend to walk the dog down porthtowan instead even though there's not much difference distance wise.

I just can't stand the smug voice of the woman who fronts the adverts.

I can't stand her either

She's been on other stuff but can't remember what

She was wearing the same top as me on one of the adverts. It's put me right off the top.

The Cornish don't like us Grockles!

AIstolemylunch · 27/02/2024 12:21

I know Cornwall pretty well so tbh I would travel to beaches and pubs etc that I already know if the locals didn't want my beer money! Not that I have entered yet of course ...

I always think with these, the cost of insurance, heating, council tax etc will surely be a nightmare for whoever wins?!

I think most lucky enough to win would sell it, wouldn't they?

thenightsky · 27/02/2024 12:58

I've just realised I've not seen an Omaze advert for months and months now. I thought they'd gone. This time last year I was getting endless ads on my facebook. Now... nothing.

I get them all the time on reddit. The checks on winners seem absurd, I don't have a criminal record (haven't tried hard enough) but what on earth else would they need?

MelonSmoothie · 27/02/2024 13:14

I'm getting loads of TV adverts for it with Draco Malfoy plugging it.

What other checks are there?

Honestly have no idea! But if it's a prize draw it should be a prize draw.

Check your noise levels?? "don't want no council around 'ere, innit"

MaggieFS · 27/02/2024 14:26

Does anyone know what the odds are vs. national Lottery? I need to do something to try and escape the daily grind.

LittleSnowdropsHeraldingSpring · 19/04/2024 18:43

Where is the new one anyone?

martinisforeveryone · 19/04/2024 18:52

It's in Dorset, described as tropical rainforest style.

IvorTheEngineDriver · 19/04/2024 18:57

Frankly, I've never seen one that wasn't totally naff which is why I never enter.

Did you not like the most recent London one? As I recall the family who won it were local and moved in!

GeorgieLark · 23/04/2024 10:06

PossumintheHouse · 25/02/2024 22:12

The terms and conditions for the winner are massive. If you have a criminal record, for example, they veto the original ‘winner’ and draw for another person.

They still have to follow UK lottery laws so it is not a case of vetting or picking a winner. There are some factors that would disqualify a small number of people. You can’t work for any company that is connected to Omaze or be related to an employee for example. A lot of the houses, especially the earlier draws seem to have issues however.
