Anyone ever just headed off to a local hotel to get away from it all?

Seriously considering doing this.

having a really hard time with my mental health, and I just want to be alone from everyone, from every day life, lie in bed, eat crap food and not have to talk to anyone or look after others.

Would it be a bit odd to go to my local Premier Inn for two nights? It's only half a mile away.

Fed up with my family, I drove about 30 miles to the Lake District. Had a wonderful weekend with my dog, in a lovely hotel.

I thoroughly recommend it. Came home in a much more positive frame of mind.

Do it OP. Not weird at all.

Yes we stayed in a very nearby town once..by a river, lovely spa, great food..20 min drive. Honestly it was fabulous!

Datafan55 · 25/02/2024 15:42

I consider that often... It sounds like a treat! Do it.

brilliant idea - you go for it !

OlgaRhythm · 25/02/2024 15:45

No, but when I was pregnant with no 2 I spent the night at a friends for a night away from the toddler! It was perfect.

Nope I’ve done it a couple of times , sometimes I don’t even care where it is …. Just want to be left in peace . Do it 👍🏻

Catch 22. I'd want to go for peace from the kids but I wouldn't want to leave them home.

Costacoffeeplease · 25/02/2024 15:50

I often go to a hotel about half an hour away for a weekend, I love it

Soontobe60 · 25/02/2024 15:51

I used to regularly take myself off for a day somewhere I could escape to. DH would book a day off to take care of the kids, I’d find somewhere nice to visit, and set off first thing. I’d always arrive home with a take away though! It kept me sane when the kids were young and life was manic!

I dream of doing this. Just a night of not having to think about anyone else.

Hot bath, nice food, early night, un disturbed sleep - bliss!

Although I'm worried that in reality, I wouldn't be able to sleep as I'm away from home and missing the kids 🙄

They’d benefit from having a mum who was mentally stronger though.

A dear friend of mine did this. Her family (husband and teens) were driving her mad so she just announced she was going off for a break from them and took herself off to a lovely hotel in a beautiful town about an hour away from home
She came back refreshed, family never mentioned it but were more considerate afterwards

GetWhatYouWant · 25/02/2024 15:53

It's a good idea. When you're physically away from the things that are causing you stress it's much easier to relax and switch off for a little while which can help you recharge. Having a long bath, watching TV in bed, reading books can obviously be done at home but there's a special pleasure doing them on your own in a hotel.

DistingusedSocialCommentator · 25/02/2024 15:53

we've nearly done it - then thought about it overnight - as next day was suny, me and my OH went for a three day mini break - the nice weather helped

Your circumstances slightly different, but go for it

RubyGemStone · 25/02/2024 15:54

I live in London but probably stay in a central hotel a few times a year. Does wonders for me. I'm not a country type person, if I was I'd stay there though. Why shouldn't you? I really wouldn't give it a second thought, do what makes you happy.

BIossomtoes · 25/02/2024 16:23

We used to do it a lot when my parents were very old and frail. There’s an amazing posh hotel 30 minutes from home. We spent a number of birthdays and wedding anniversaries there.

Great! DH is off the end of the week, so that's childcare sorted and I don't need to worry about the school run.
I just need a recharge or reset. Fed up with feeling so low. Have PTSD from a recent event and I'm exhausted.
