Can I share something special?

Well, it was special to me.

I’ve been having a bit of a rough time lately. Questioning whether I’m a good mum, whether I do enough/too much/too little for my DC, if I should have done things differently for them. Have I saved enough for them? Have I taught them everything I can…? You get the idea. The mum guilt, it’s overwhelming sometimes and I won’t lie, I’ve spent nights crying wishing there were things I could change for them.

Anyway, my point.

My DD15 said they were doing some work in form and it involved talking about their role model. She said there were lots of footballers and musicians mentioned and some authors, world leaders etc.
She said that I was hers. Of all the people in the world she could have chosen, she chose me. Those few words lifted an unbearable weight from my shoulders.
She looked at me in a slightly baffled kind of way as she’d noticed my eyes welling up and said “of course it was you mum, it’ll always be you”

I know it might not seem like much but it was honestly the best compliment I could ever have. It gave me the boost I needed and made me realise i must be doing ok.

You've obviously done a fantastic job,we are our own worst critics.

I loved reading this 💕

I’m glad other people think it’s lovely too. I didn’t know if maybe I was just being a bit soppy. She’s such a lovely girl. So hardworking and kind.

It’s very true that we’re our own worst critics and I think i’ll probably always question if I’m a good enough mum but i’ll take that as a win for the moment!
