Please recommend a gripping, unputdownable book to get me back into reading!

I used to be a voracious reader; for my whole life until bout 4/5 years ago when my concentration and ability to focus seem to have gone AWOL -probably as a menopause thing - and I've not read a book for an embarassingly long time.

Please recommend books that you couldn't tear yourself away from! I'm hoping that some gripping books will keep me hooked and re-establish my reading habit.

TIA.

Bought this on your recommendation. Read it in one night. LOVED it! Thank you
Any more recommendations?!

I've ordered that one, @Globules so I'm pleased to see your post!

Also ordered Copperhead Demon because it's so recommended on here, but also I realise it's based on David Copperfield, which is one of my favourite books ever.

I started listening today (on Spotify) to The Stand. At 47.5 hours long, that's me sorted on my dog walks for a while!

The Stand being by Stephen King, by the way.

Thanks again to all posters 😊

It really is that good, isn't it?

No more recommendations from me that come up to that gripping level, but some others on this thread look very interesting.

A few recent ones I've found gripping: The Push by Audrey Audrain; The Last Weekend by Blake Morrison and How to Kill your Family by Bella Mackie

It's not an unputdownable thriller but I'm listening to (no time to sit down and read, I have an audiobook while I'm doing chores/cooking) Empire of Pain by Patrick Raddon Keefe. It's about the Sackler family and the sheer outrageous measures they went to to get America hooked on opioids. It's incredibly well set out and compelling. If you liked Demon Copperhead this is a great companion book

Just finished where the crawdads sing, before that read the Allerton Angels.

Was about to say both of these! They are excellent!

I agree, I read one after the other last year and enjoyed them both thoroughly. I think empire of Pain is the best NF book I have ever read, it was as gripping as any novel.
