What age were your teens when you left them at home and went on holiday/weekend away?

As the title says, how old were your dc when you had a break away (overnight, weekend or a longer holiday) and left them at home alone?

And did they keep the place clean and tidy?

I haven't got there yet. DS is 15.5.

I'm not sure I'd relax into a weekend away, knowing ds was in charge at home.

My house has taken a lifetime's work 😀

Meadowfinch this is the dilemma we have this summer. Ds is 18 but is hardly ever at home these days. Dd is 16 in May and says she doesn’t want to come away with us much anymore. We have a caravan and like to have a few weekends away and a couple of longer weeks in the summertime.

I’ve said she can have a friend stay and my sister lives just around the corner.
Just concerned about the (inevitable) mess I’ll come home to!

First time DD was 18 and DS 16 but that was only because DD was nervous to be alone before that! We did go away a fair amount and had friends or family stay with them overnight. At 16 if they are happy to be left and have a friend there and relative nearby I would absolutely go!

We started leaving DC3 aged 11 or 12 with DC2 aged 20/22, who (obviously) is still living at home. Plus the dog. Freedom!

For one night we are debating leaving the older two home alone (15 and 14) and youngest staying with a friend but not sure yet. I don't think I would leave for more than one night until oldest was 18, middle 17 and not sure if I would leave the youngest (would be 14). My parents are local though.

I left DD at 16 because she was happy with it.

Whitegrenache · 24/02/2024 20:53

We left dd17 (driving) and Ds 14 for 3 nights and to be honest it was the making of them.

Their sense of responsibility and teamwork has been amazing. DD is very very responsible and DS does what he is told by her so we had a strong strength of trust in them both

One night when 16/14. They did fine.
Two nights when 17/15. Again, all fine.
I now happily do 3-5 nights away. 17 yr old only left in the house. She's happy to be alone for that much time. She's at uni in Sept, so it's all prep.

IncognitoIsMyFavouriteWord · 24/02/2024 20:57

17 and yes he did.

Had his girlfriend staying with him and my house and pets were well taken care of.

I expect no less of DS though. He wasn't one for wild parties.

Think we’ll do a couple of fairly local Saturday night stay aways then a couple of longer weekends and take it from there. Both Dec are fairly sensible so fingers crossed it’ll be ok.

UnctuousUnicorns would love to leave the dog as well but he’s a nutcase rescue and all hell would break loose if we left him so he’ll have to join us.

Ah, we have a very lazy chilled whippet, who post 8.30 p.m. (after her last walk) is happy to snooze under the duvet until morning. Makes things very easy! 😁
