How to do weights at home?

I'm happy to buy weights and do them at home, but I have no idea where to start? I'm about 10kg overweight too. Any tips and what weights do I need to start with?

Take a look at Caroline Girvan on YouTube. I think there is a Beginner EPIC program followed by EPIC when you are starting out. Don't be put off by the weights she uses and just use what you can manage. Weights are available on Amazon for a reasonable price.

Loads of YouTube tutorials aimed at beginners. Watch some first and find an instructor you like and use that as a guide as to what weights to buy.

What sort of exercises do you want to do? Free weights, strength training, rack? If you’ve never tried before then it’s a good idea to see if you can book a couple of intro sessions with a local PT or at a local studio / gym so that you can find out which exercises work best for the areas you need / want to work on and how to do them effectively (you don’t work the right muscles otherwise) and safely - especially if you’re going to be doing squats, rows, anything where ensuring correct form to support your back is crucial. Online courses can also be okay, but you want one where the instructor explains exactly what to do to work each muscle properly.

And don’t buy cheap weights. The grip and the balance of them will be all wrong and they’re more difficult to work with, which isn’t what you want as a beginner. You don’t have to spend a fortune, Decathlon have some really good stuff in their mid price range.

I agree with the Caroline Girvan suggestion. But, word of caution: although Beginner Epic sounds like it should be beginner-level, it's not! It's just the first stage of her Epic series. I would start with her Iron series on YouTube,

Caroline is good place to start, but I’d do her non weight training YouTube videos first

then once you’ve mastered getting all the way through, each one, move on to buying 3kg dumbbells etc
