How would you dress these different sized windows?

In one room, on one wall. The large one needs 229 x 229 cm curtains which just skim the floor. 182cm curtains are too short.

The smaller window is only 65 cm wide and about 100cm tall.

They both have a wooden mount above for curtain pole.

Would you have them both with 229cm curtains skimming the floor even though the smaller window isn't even half that length.

Or would you have 2 different length curtains?

*images not to scale 😂

I know you say the image isn’t to scale, but how big is the space between the two windows?

IWantYourLaptop · 22/02/2024 19:21

About 2ms.

Probably go full length for both

Same length, and move the pole, so they are equal heights from the ceiling. An alternative would be to have blinds at both windows and just curtains at the big window. Hard to say without a proper picture and knowing if they are on the same or different walls.

2m is far enough apart to treat them as separate entities I think! I would go with a blind for the smaller window - either a Roman blind or a perfect fit one.

Full length curtains but same height (or distance from the ceiling) for the poles.

Fabellini · 22/02/2024 19:28

I think I’d go for curtains at the large window, and a Roman blind in the same fabric at the small one.

Agree with @Fabellini.

I think a full length curtain on the small window would look ridiculous.

IWantYourLaptop · 22/02/2024 19:36

I can't move the pole as it's attached to a wooden mount that's built into the wall and I don't wanna start having to replaster and such.

You could remove the pole on the small window and attach the roman blind fitting to the wooden mount though?
Just if you wanted to of course!

When you're dealing with windows of different sizes, it’s good to think about both how they look and how they function. In my experience, for a larger window, going with 229 cm curtains that just touch the floor gives a neat, polished appearance. These curtains frame the window nicely and add a touch of elegance to the room. For a smaller window, a shorter length might be better to avoid overwhelming the space. Mixing different lengths can help maintain balance and proportion in the room. However, if you like a more uniform look, using the same 229 cm length for both windows can bring everything together. I've found that linen curtains work really well. The natural texture and flow of linen suit different window sizes and give the room a light, airy feel that matches many decor styles. The key is to choose curtains that match in style and fabric to create a harmonious look.
