Do you always have a song in your head?

Even when I wake up at 3am there is a song in my head. Maybe something I heard that day or watched online etc. It's a bit annoying sometimes, as its often the same bit on repeat. I put white noise on to go back to sleep.

My son says he has this too. When we walk the dog we ask each other 'what song have you got?'
DP doesn't know what I'm talking about.
Do you have one right now? and if so what is it?

Mine can be triggered by the last thing someone says.. Just an hour ago DH said “Will you take me to..” and I jumped in and sang “Funky town!!” And now its in my head

I do this as well.
I pretty always have a song whirring in my head or sometimes a word or phrase that takes my liking.
Is this not normal?!

Acheyelbows · 22/02/2024 15:49

Usually have a song on in my head and if not then like pp said the words that come up in conversation trigger songs to start up.
Sounds around me can cause it too, when I was younger the ticking of the car indicators used to set me off singing Eternal Flame by the Bangles, now I just play it in my head.

BouleDeSuif · 22/02/2024 15:54

Always. Today it's the hymn Rock of Ages, occasionally "Sound and Vision" by David Bowie breaks through, and I've got a couple of sentences from a film I watched last year going round as well. It is never quiet inside my head.

The Duck Song, on YouTube

Sorry everyone 😔 😬

Edited

lol I like the Duck Song (shush don't tell anyone) and it's a massive ear worm song

DoAWheelie · 22/02/2024 16:06

All today it's been switching between "everybody hurts" by REM, and baby shark. A very strange combo.

HelpMebeok · 22/02/2024 16:07

Not always but a lot. And sometimes I hum it without realising and drive my daughter crazy.

Sometimes it's triggered by something and sometimes just random.

spookily often I have something in my head and switch the car radio on and it's playing!

HelloDarlingWhatAreYouDoingHere · 22/02/2024 16:10

Not always, but when I do it's there for days or weeks.

DaBlackCatsAreDaBestCats · 22/02/2024 16:12

Yes always.

TerrifiedandWorried · 22/02/2024 16:13

Do you really like it? is it is it wicked?

SaturdayGiraffe · 22/02/2024 16:40

Yes, always. But is that not normal?

FizzyStream · 22/02/2024 16:55

Most of the time yes. Unfortunately it's currently one 7yo DS has just made up about his Squishmallow.

NeverDropYourMooncup · 22/02/2024 16:58

Music from Godzilla (Toho films) at the moment.

Could be worse, I suppose. It helps drown out the actual Tinnitus.

Tinkerbellflowers · 22/02/2024 17:17

I read somewhere (it may have been on here actually) someone saying their brain has their own personal DJ. I know exactly what they mean!

flowerpotmike · 22/02/2024 17:22

yes and it's always boom boom boom boom by the Venga boys

SkaneTos · 22/02/2024 17:32

Yes. And I might sing it.

@CacenCaws

this same thread was done recently. You might find it interesting.

my answer remains the same...

no thank god!! I'd have to look for the nearest bridge. I couldn't cope with it!!

I thought as I was posting it it had maybe been done already, but then I got distracted by the song in my head Confused
TikTok is the worst as the videos are so short so it's just the same bit repeated

Yes, or perhaps music more generally. I can "listen" to whole albums without hearing a thing too. My dd is the same

mitogoshi · 22/02/2024 19:26

I'm currently on Bob Marley having just watched the movieGrin

CacenCaws · 22/02/2024 19:29

Thanks for replies so far. No idea on the ADHD link though last night I was trying to remember a really annoying one that I had all day but forgotten, but another part of my brain was saying 'no don't try and remember it, it was annoying - think of something else Blush

StickNMove · 22/02/2024 19:29

Yes, very often.

Today it’s been ‘Gimme The Loot’ by Notorious BIG (which is witty and clever but also violent and misogynistic. And I can’t get it out of my head!)

I’ve been at work all day in my very sensible, professional job internally rapping ‘word to mother, I’m dangerous / Crazier than a bag of fucking angel dust!’ 😂

mitogoshi · 22/02/2024 19:29

Ok moved onto be still for the presence of the Lord ... thank you to whoever mentioned that !

dayswithaY · 22/02/2024 19:31

Yes permanently, sometimes several - it’s like someone tuning in a radio between stations.

Is there something wrong with me?

TrulyScrumptiousTS · 22/02/2024 19:31

No

Babyroobs · 22/02/2024 19:32

I always seem to have a song in my head. Today it is murder on the dance floor and now dd has come home form Uni and talking about Saltburn film relating to karaoke scene and now it's Pet shop boys " I pay your rent" !

CaspersMum24 · 22/02/2024 19:33

Always it seems. The current one is Dear Prudence, Siouxsie and the Banshees version.
