Instore when you do your shopping from groceries?

Does it show as a separate credit transaction on your statement?

You can you should get a separate credit card statement if that's what you mean.?

Alwaystired2023 · 22/02/2024 11:08

I don't think you should OP not good for your credit score - check MSE website for good information as to why

Only workaround might be if you did a balance transfer to your current acc and then withdrew funds on a debit card. But ideally a 0% card with a 0% balance transfer fee etc

MooseAndSquirrelLoveFlannel · 22/02/2024 11:09

You can, but you usually get charged extra for doing it.

DelilahBucket · 22/02/2024 11:09

Not in a supermarket you can't. You can withdraw from a cash machine but it will cost you dearly. There's usually a one off fee plus a high interest rate charged daily and immediately after withdrawal.

Mrsjayy · 22/02/2024 11:09

Oh do you mean cashback?

OP hasn't asked for your advice on whether she should or shouldn't. You've no idea why she's asking this!

gamerchick · 22/02/2024 11:11

It's like a big bell when you draw on a credit card OP. Not a good idea if you're trying to hide it.

PoppingTomorrow · 22/02/2024 11:11

Yes but it will cost you loads in interesf

BringMeSaltandVinegar · 22/02/2024 11:11

You can but that transaction might have a different level of interest for the repayments.

2dogsandabudgie · 22/02/2024 11:11

Do you mean cashback? A lot of supermarkets aren't doing that now, in my area both Tesco's and Sainsbury's have stopped.

NotARealWookiie · 22/02/2024 11:14

You can take money out of an atm on a credit card but the interest is colossal and you absolutely shouldn’t

Alwaystired2023 · 22/02/2024 11:37

@NoOrdinaryMorning oh sorry I didn't mean to come across judgemental in my post - just sharing what I would say to a friend, if OP wasn't aware this was possible (to withdraw cash from CC) I just was keen to highlight possible risks that's all - no judgement hence my workaround suggestion which I have done myself many times

Yes this is what I was thinking I tried at a Morrisons daily last year and they didn't do it anymore.

heartbroken22 · 22/02/2024 11:49

Yes I meant cash back sorry. The one where u ask at the tills with your shopping.

OP posts:
SheepAndSword · 22/02/2024 11:50

Genuinely didn't realise supermarkets still did cashback

Tesco and Asda both still do it at the self service tills, but you have to put your card in, not tap and go

Mrsjayy · 22/02/2024 11:54

I think the supermarkets have stopped offering cashback unfortunately, I think it just showed up as one transaction on your statement though.

atalosstotes · 22/02/2024 11:59

Whether or not they will do cashback on a credit card please go in with eyes wide open that this will damage your credit rating and report. Withdrawing cash on a CC is a big red flag that will show on your credit file

candgen625 · 22/02/2024 11:59

You can but it's expensive. I think you are charged interest right away on it and there is often a fee

It's also terrible for your credit rating.

heartbroken22 · 22/02/2024 12:00

@Mrsjayy on a credit card too? It shows up as one transaction?

I'm sure but I wouldn't want to be positive and cause any issue for you, but I think it will show as part of your purchase.

I think you normally incur extra charges for drawing cash from a credit card so I don’t think you could do it without the cardholder knowing, I’m sorry.

If you need help because you’re being financially controlled or abused, and you can be sure that your abuser doesn’t know you use Mumsnet and isn’t monitoring your devices, please do ask for help here - there are lots of good people who can offer help and advice about ow to get out of the situation you’re in.

Otherwise, please contact Women’s Aid who will be able to help.

TheFlis · 22/02/2024 12:09

I don’t think you can get cash back on a credit card, only debit cards.

barkymcbark · 22/02/2024 12:09

Yes you can and yes it does. They also sing you for quite a high interest rate and it can impact your credit score

Pineapplewaves · 22/02/2024 12:11

You'll pay a lot more interest on a cash withdrawal, you'd be better off using the card to pay for the items you want if you're now down to spending on your CC.
