The kindest thing would be PTS, managed to avoid CP for almost three decades of life. Now on day 3 and I've never felt so ill in my life

Have you got some antivirals from the GP? They can reduce symptoms but I recall you need to start them asap for them to have any effect.

I’ve had it, but my kids seem determined not to catch it despite it having been around every other child in their respective nursery rooms with numerous exposures at close quarters. Would people suggest getting them vaccinated at this stage? They’re 2 and 4. I dread them getting it when they’re older and being really ill with it. I’ve kept wishing they’d just get catching it over with!

It's horrible, you had my sympathy!!

I had it as an adult and they were in my eyelids, in my mouth, it was just awful.

I got some numbing gel if you are struggling to eat and drink.

I'm so sorry for you OP. I caught it in my late 30s and was very ill with it - it took a week before I could get out of bed, three weeks to go out of the house. Rest, fluids, painkillers, and plenty of calamine lotion for the itching. The most painful areas were ones where your clothes are tight - bra band and straps, waistbands. I wore soft clothes and was very careful not to scratch. I still ended up with some scarring on my forehead and belly. The spots in one ear got infected and needed antibiotics. Take good care of yourself xx

DH caught it aged 36 from our DC having not had it as a child. He was really poorly - hallucinating at one point before being admitted to hospital and put on antivirals. The doctor said the reason adults are often so poorly is that they have as many spots on the inside as they do on the outside so they can get inflammation in internal organs as well. He had pneumonitis and is left with scarring in his lungs, not an everyday issue but he always gets a chest infection from the most minor cold.

I also remember going to the doctors, just as I was feeling slightly better and crying as I felt so ill! I wailed and said "And on top of all that, I've got bloody thrush!" He said "That's not thrush my dear, it's the chicken pox!" I honestly wasn't aware it could manifest inside the vag! It's bloody awful and you have my full sympathy. A few days on now, I hope you're coming out of the other side? 💐

I got chicken pox in my 50's! I self diagnosed as was feeling so poorly that when someone asked me at work how I was I burst out crying. Then I saw the signs, and my Dr gave a little chuckle and said I was one of the oldest people she had seen with chicken pox - good news was that once I got on the medication I started to feel better, and used the time to rest and rest.
I hope you feel better soon
