What happens if a guest watches live TV or BBC at my house when I have no TV licence?

Hi, I don't have a TV licence because I don't need one. What liability if any do I have for people watching live TV/BBC at my home? Like say on their tablet?

Thanks

Nothing will happen.

Nothing .

Unlikely anything will happen, but strictly speaking you would be liable for the fine.

I don't have a TV licence. My parents cat-sat at my place for ten days and are big consumers of BBC TV, but I never heard anything from TVL.

They can watch it on a tablet but should be covered by a licence at that address if they plug it in to the mains. It’s all a bit ridiculous.

TheFlis · 20/02/2024 22:48

How would anyone know they had watched it?

Hermittrismegistus · 20/02/2024 22:50

Nothing will happen. Nothing will happen if you decide to start watching television either.

Thanks all. Yes I realise that in all likelihood nothing will happen but I'm interested in the legalities of it. It does seem ridiculous that theoretically I have to have a TV licence on the off-chance a guest watches live TV or BBC in my home because they aren't covered by their own TV licence when they are at my address. Even if they were watching without my knowledge.
